ok so here is what you do.. i had the same problem, go to options, mobile network, switch network technology to gsm/umts, switch network mode to 3g&2g, turn data services off, hold off key until device shut down, power back up, turn on data services, hit the menu button, select diagnostics test, hit menu button, select run... viola!
