I have a 46" Sanyo LCD TV with a similar problem. The top 4th has intermittent vertical lines and then occassionally the whole left side goes dark. There are 4 distinct sections like yours. The top section usually messes up most of the time with the other 3 just happening occasioally. I found the by tapping on the left side of the frame or squeezing the left side of the frame that it will normally start working for a while. I have been doing all kinds of research and can only find people with the same problem but not solutions. Since there is so many people with this problem I am seriously considering spending the money to slowly replace parts until I can find the cause. If tapping on the frame or squeezing on the frame or lightly pushing on the screen seems to work please let me know so when I get deeper into my TV it will help me know more what to do. Without testing the components this can be a variety of things. It could be the power inverter board which drives the lcd screen itself. It could be a bad mainboard which controls the entire tv. In either instance, the cost of replacement parts are often higher then the total cost of the tv. Todays electronics are designed to be thrown away (not something I agree with at all) The last inverter board I replaced cost over $300.00, the only reason the customer paid for the part, was the tv was no longer manufactured in the size they wanted. If you still wish to repair the tv yourself, you may want to contact samsung support, so you can at least work out which part exactly is damaged, you will need a Philips head screw driver, Digital Multi-meter, and a general understanding of electricity. Also make sure you have ample room to take apart the tv and place each component in a safe location so to reduce further damage.

use the optical out(digital) you need a toslink cable plug it into the same hole on the reciver they will be lit or glowing(red i think)a little square

You need to complete the tuning process and set the region where you live. This will sort the channels in the correct order.

Remove and replace Optics box. Also Color Wheel may be broken.

It sounds that the sound processing section [digital circuts] are working well, and the fault must be either to the speakers, settings or to analogue audio amplifier section. Make sure that the Mute function is OFF. If it is OFF, and still you do not get audio output by tV speakers, surely the fault must be to audio amplifier circuits, provided speakers are OK. If your TV has a headphone out socket, this socket should also checked for proper interconnection.

I think the backlight is failing, you will need to have it replaced. It is also possible that the backlight inverter (power supply) may be faulty but that usually shows up a fault. I think it unlikely that the screen itself has failed unless it has been subjected to pressure damage.

Hi liam, this is a common problem and quite easy to fix.
Unfortunately Samsung decided to use inferior generic power boards with their sets. They pretty much use the same power supply for the 32, 37 and 40 inch TV's. This is a great idea for production, unfortunately the power supply fails on the 40 and 42 inch models because of load. I find these power boards pretty cheap on Ebay and replacing them is a breeze. Just keep an eye out for the refurbished boards, since these have been beefed up a bit to compensate for the extra power drain.

You only have the preset picture settings and the custom settings to use in the user menu.. Only your eyes can tell you what you like. The only other way to get a really killer picture is to have a Professional ISF Video Calibrator calibrate the set.

For the best signal, use a HDMI cable. There is a HDMI out put on your Sat box and a HDMI input on the set. Reading the owners manual that came with the tv will help locate these input/outputs

Does your notebook have HDMI or DVI outputs? If no, then use standard VGA cable, which is supported by this TV and quality is fine also on 1920x1080 resolution. Also for VGA input on TV you can use almost any resolution the notebook supports (for HDMI only few resolutions are supported).

if you look inside the battery compartment there should be a revision number for the remote.

for a LE40b652 use -

Rev 4 or 6 Remote - 0646 or 0502 or 0615

Rev 8 Remote - 0646 or 0840 or 1340

Dude, better check your cable and also your TV's power management settings. This might also happen due a issue with the HDMI output of the satellite box.
