Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary. Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here. ..

My 37" LG LCD TV (37LH20) has no picture, but the sound still works. I've read a few things online that say it is likely the inverter board? I found a 'power supply/backlight inverter' for it on ebay.

My lg 37lh20 model wont turn back on.It cut off when circuit breaker blew a fuse.

Sounds like a power surge hit your TV. Typically when this happens capacitors on the power board with blow. You can buy a repair kit for this problem from several of the dot coms out there. The best one I have found has been tvrepairkits .com. Hope this helps.

Will not turn on

Possible failure of the main power supply which is a SMPS unit. So please check this link below as it can also be a fuse failure.

The TV went black like the plug was

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom (look for discoloration of the circuit board around the base of the capacitor) need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the unit will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and/or inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are SURE it's only doing supply output ripple filtering,
and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

Backlight related video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XoF6QZ1dmw&feature=related

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors, amplifiers, computer power supplies and motherboards, and other electronic equipment.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.
A great parts source is Digi-Key, and you can order the parts online at www.digikey.com
They typically cost under a dollar a piece plus a flat shipping rate.
The parts usually arrive one business day later.
If you watch the third video, you will see that even someone with no soldering experience can perform these repairs as demonstrated by the woman in the video.

Unless you hook HDMI to HDMI, you won't carry sound across the HDMI cable. If you're using a VGA to HDMI converter, you'll get the picture but no sound.

I have a feeling the headset jack on the TV is an output rather than an input. Most TVs accept HDMI, RCA, or a digital audio input (either coaxial or optical). Unless you have a S/PDIF optical output from your laptop (and you obviously don't have an HDMI output), then your only other choice is likely to get a cable that splits a 1/8" headset type connector into two RCA plugs that you'll plug into an AUDIO IN input on your TV.

Hi Jason,
To hear the sound to your Bose Audio system from LG 37LH20 you must have an optical cord, and your bose must have an optical audio in.
RCA Jack of LG37LH20 is only for audio IN, there's no RCA Jack audio out from this model that's why you can't hear the sound even you hook up the Bose from that jack.
To make it possible, hook up the optical cord to your TV and then the other end to Bose Audio system.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

My 37" lg hdtv lcd

Their are a lot of things that could be wrong with your TV. The most commond would be your power supply or your signal board. If you look at your power supply carefully, You might see some capacitors that look like they blow up. If that's the case then replaceing them might fix your problem if not then you might have to get a whole power supply. You can get parts for this TV at www.interliquidparts.com
