My lg tv turns off right as i turn it on. The standby light comes back on. If it sits in the sun for a while it turns on fine.
The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

Why won't it turn on?

My LG TV turns off by itself. Is it worth repairing?
it depends on how old the set is, and if you can find some one who will work on it, most problems with a LCD tv, is that one of the boards goes bad, there is a main board, and a driver for stero, and channel functions, if you can find some one, let them give you an estimate for how much it would cost, no harm in letting them look at it, but beware , parts are not cheap, so cost for new set, compaired to repair, equals what you should do
LG 55LH40 is showing only the top quarter of the
Large TV screens are made up of 3 or more sections, and each has a separate driver board controlling it, both on the circuits inside, and in the actual TV thin film screen panel (that's the clear panel that actually has the picture appear on it, then a back light shows it up).To know which part has gone faulty is very difficult to diagnose without the right electronic testing equipment and training in tracking electronic faults down. But you can narrow it down quickly as there are only a few simple parts inside a TV.If possible, you need to track down either the correct driver board and try replacing that, or unfortunately it can be the actual screen itself has gone faulty (this is rare but does happen). As an example, I had a 32 inch TV, perfect working order back in 2007. My house electric got a power spike and the electric all went off. When it came back on, the TV only had one 3rd working (top 3rd). I had to change the whole TV front panel - all of the other parts were still perfect. To learn about TV repairs I took the display apart to track the fault piece by piece - I was told it wasn't possible by 3 engineers in shops, but it can happen, the actual flat panel was at fault, and a replacement at a yard sale for $15 fixed it again. That was a few years back and ive fixed about 30 since then, i'd say a quarter of them just needed the whole display changing (not the actual back light section or T - CON board if it's that type)It's also possible that there is corrosion / oxidation on the screen contacts, and its easier / cheaper to try cleaning them first with appropriate electrical contact cleaner.
Whats the purpose for an inverter board on tv panel
the inverter is what powers the flourescent tube lights (Back Lights) so you can see the screen image. As a LCD panels picture is very very dark it needs the lights behind it for the image to be able to be seen. The inverter is the "power supply" for those backlights.
LG model 55lh40 no picture no sound
check your standby voltage and make sure it is coming up standbys come from the power supply board and if they are present your main board is bad or the main power supply is not working
