I put in a new disc to record and ( and get

E4 error code means that the disc isn't being read, because the unit is dirty or the optical eye is going out .You have to get a cleaning kit and then proceed.

you may try this:
unplug from wall, wait 15 minutes, plug back in, and reset the clock,
or
The disc must be DVD-R with an R4.7 under the logo and they MUST be 4X or 8X specific .... the cannot be 1X - 8X or 1X - 16X or note up to 16X .... the disc box must state 4X or 8X ONLY .... and yes they are hard to find for sure

How to hook up to

Use the highest resolution connection your HD TV will allow. This will usually DR570's HDMI connector. Most all digital video devices have one or more. The DR570 has an HDMI OUT. Connect it to any HDMI IN connector on your TV. You will then need to set the TV's Input selection to the Input Number you connected the DR570 to. See your TV Remote or Manual.

The DR570 has three types of output connection options, in order of quality; HDMI, Component(Red/Blu/Grn RCA jacks), S-Video (circular connector), and composite (Red/Wht/Yel, where Yel is video and Red/Wht are left/right stereo audio). Red/Wht RCA Audio jack connections are required to be made on all Output types excepting HDMI.

Note, to get your Digital channels, you will need to toggle the DR570's DTV/TV button. DTV is Digital TV channels. TV is analog channels, the DR570 found on your Cable or Antenna RF input coax, after you have done the Setup/General/Channels/Scan (extended). Scan only finds analog channels. Extended Scan scans for both Analog and Digital channels found active on your Cable/Antenna RF connection.

Note also, the DR570 is not technically and HD receiver. The term High Defintion (HD) is reserved to mean 1080i or p resolution, the highest available. The DR570 is an Extended Definition (ED) 720i or p receiver. It up-converts its ED to fit an a 16:9 HD TV screen. You will hardly notice the difference on your TV, but it is the difference between watching a DVD Movie on a standard DVD player, like this one, as opposed to a full HD player like a Blue Ray.

I need a manual for a Toshiba DVD recorder DR570.

Download it from Toshiba's Support site. It is in standard adobe reader .pdf format. If not on Toshiba Support, google for it. It is available online.

Advantages of downloaded digital manuals are; it's free, you don't lose it, and you can more quickly find what you are looking for in it by searching words in adobe readers .pdf document 'search' window. Most all PCs have adobe reader already installed, if not, google it and download it for installation. Else, your browser will allow you to view it online without installation.

I recently purchased the Toshiba DR570KU DVD

Hi -

I'll try to explain without confusing you any further, but if anything doesn't make sense, please let me know. The instructions on page 79 are contradictory, which doesn't help very much. The upper part of the page suggests you can create extra space on a DVD+RW disc by deleting titles, while the lower part, in the grey box, states you cannot. The bottom part is actually correct.

I'll split this into two sections - blank/unused and used discs then explore a few scenarios.

Blank/unused discs

A DVD+RW is typically 4.7GB and will record approx. 2 hours of video in SP mode or 4 hours inLP mode. If you record more than one programme, they will appear consecutively in the disc editing menu, and shown as numbered blocks in the Title List. The last block shown will always be 'EMPTY', but the actual size of this block can be all or none of the total capacity of the disc.

If you insert a blank DVD+RW disc into the machine and view the title list, you will see this:

belectric_221.jpg

Although you can't 'record' to a block labelled EMPTY, this doesn't mean you cannot record to this disc. The blank space on the disc precedes the block labelled as 'EMPTY'.

If you then record one programme of 1 hour duration in SP mode. the title list will look like this:

belectric_222.jpg

Once again, although you can't 'record' to the block labelled EMPTY, this doesn't mean this disc is full or that you cannot record anything else on it. The next programme recorder will appear between title 1 and the 'empty' block - as long as there is sufficient space on the disc remaining to record the programme.

If you then record a second programme of 1 hour duration in SP mode. the title list will look like this:

belectric_223.jpg

This disc is now full as 2 hours of video has been recorded in SP mode. However, if you'd only recorded 1 hour in total for these 2 programmes, you would still be able to record another hour of video in SP to this disc. The additional programmes would appear between the last numbered title and the 'empty' block - until the disc is full.

The empty block is always present and you cannot 'get rid of it', but it doesn't mean the disc is full or cannot be recorded on.

Hopefully, this goes some way to explaining it, but I still need need to explain what happens with used / full discs when you want to delete programmes and re-record.

There is a maximum length for messages posted on FixYa and I may be getting close to this, so rather than break off in mid-flow, I will continue the explanation for used discs in another message below this one. I will do this right now, but it will probably take me 20 minutes or so to write part 2, so keep checking back. It will be less confusing if you hold any questions until I've written part 2, but I will be happy to answer any after that.

Regards,
BElectric

Toshiba 42RV500E sound issue

This is a known issue with this TV. The following might resolve it: Check Mute and Volume: Ensure that the TV is not muted and that the volume is set appropriately. Sometimes accidental button presses can lead to muted sound or low volume. Inspect External Speakers: If you're using external speakers, verify their connections. Loose cables or faulty speakers can cause sound issues. Test Different Inputs: Connect a non-HDMI device (such as a DVD player) to the TV. Observe if the sound distortion occurs. If it doesn't, the problem might be related to the HDMI signal from your Virgin box. HDMI Troubleshooting: If the issue persists with the DVD player over HDMI, consider the following: HDMI Cable: Check the HDMI cable for damage or loose connections. Virgin Signal: Contact Virgin to inspect the signal/lines and replace the box if necessary. Mainboard Replacement (if needed): If the sound distortion persists, it could be due to a faulty sound processor chip on the TV's mainboard. In this case, consider replacing the mainboard.
