If you are connected useing the component video cords (red,blue,green,red,white) it sounds as if you have the red,blue or green cords connected to the wrong color of jacks on the back of the TV or the DVD player, recheck your connections.
If all is good there, maybe one of those cords are bad?
The Sony DVP-SR200P DVD player is on the bottom end of their model line up, and you may have received a bad one right out of the box!

Ensure the child lock feature is disabled. Attempt to open the disc tray. If the issue is not resolved, turn off the DVD player. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet for 30 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. Attempt to open the disc tray. If the disc tray still does not open, simultaneously press the POWER + STOP + EJECT buttons.
If the disc tray still does not open, simultaneously press the DISC1 + STOP + EJECT buttons or the RETURN + ENTER+ POWER buttons.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

I had the same problem so i simply turned off the CCD on the tv itself and no more captions!

at the side of the flat screen there is tv in so check the cord and make sure it goes directly to tv in ok.

check settings iether pal or ntsc

Did you try this?

1. Switch on the DVD player
2. Open the disc tray (with no disc inside)
3. Using the remote, tap in the following code - 2812
4. Highlight the region code that appears
5. Change the region to 9 for Multi-Region by pressing the 'Enter' button
6. Press 'Clear' to exit the region menu

Change TV colour settings to AUTO

Turn on the unit with the remote controller, Wait until "no disc" appears in the unit's display. Press the keys: PAUSE, 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9. And "CODE" will appear in the display. Press the number key that corresponds to the disc zone you want to play within the next 5 seconds:0: All regions / 1: Region#1 / 2: R#2/... and so on. Then, within 5 seconds, press: PAUSE, POWER... and voilà. If you don't have good results, disconnect the equipment and repeat.

I found these codes for all the other DVP-SR series players, yours was not listed but I thought was worth a try.

Try to go under the settings in the dvd player. Be sure all the setting are set up according to your TV.

Sometimes if you dont have it set to N. American standards it can output like that. Be sure its set to "NTSC" if you live in N. America or Japan. If you live in Europe be sure its set to "PAL".

Let me know If this is not a issue in comments and I will help you further but I think this is it.

Cycle through caption settings until it goes off, each time you push the caption button it goes to the next caption setting then finally back to the the begining.

If your Sony DVP-SR200 is under warranty then call Sony to get replacement, number would be written on related warranty documents.
No parts/ board are available for this model and Sony offers replacement only. And if its out of warranty, buy new dvd player.
