The DVD play part has probably had it. Try putting in a CD cleaner disc (a special CD with nylon brushes on it) if you want to spend time on it, this can fix some dirt on lens problems. I would just go and but the cheapest supermarket DVD player to replace it, why the cheapest? because DVD/CD players never last very long before they fail like this.

hi try to open the cover and then look for the mechanism, their is a problem in loading mechanism the cassette tape doesn't load properly that is why the electronic circuit turn off the unit. now after you open the cover try to load the tape then observe the mechanism if properly works make sure no broken loading gear,belt and stuck up pinch roller and drive motor. check also foreign materials inside that can cause to blocked or clogged the mechanism. hope it will help you thanks regards.

Neither of these units can record to DVD; they are DVD players. I believe they are the same unit (the extra letters indicate a region code for the player).

I am sure that your cables are connected correctly. If they are your TV and DVD/VCR palyer has to be on the same function. i.e. aux on the newer TV's or channel 2 or 1 on the older models. THis is a easy fix and this will start you on the right track.
