Hi,
The cycling or operating thermostatis often the problem when a dryer runstoo hot, but there are also other things that can make it run hot also.

Here is a tip that I wrote that gives more details about why a clothes dryer will get too hot.

Insert a putty knife along the seam above the front panel and the top. There are 2 spring clips, one on the left and one on the right corners. If you look closely, you can see them along that seam. Just take your putty knife and push in on them while lifting up to gain access.

A leading cause of over heating in a dryer is a blocked vent from the back of dryer to wherever the vent exits the house,if you run the dryer and their is a good volume of air flow at the back of the dryer where vent connects to THE VENT CAN TOTALLY BE ELIMINATED AS A PROBLEM, but istead dependiging on if your model is computer controlled or has a timer and no digital display.
If computer controlled the problem is the THERMISTOR (electronic thermostat) is the problem
If analog controls the CYCLING THERMOSTAT needs to be replaced
if poor air flow from back of dryer need to check lint filter/blower housing for blockage

Hello- Have him come back out (AT NO CHARGE) and check the gas valve coils these are probably not opening the valve, thus letting the gas out. It is a common issue and sometimes we, the Techs, need to sit there and watch the ignitor light the gas for a whole cycle. Often it will heat for 30 minutes and then the coils will stop opening the valve when told to by the timer. It is possible that there is a thermostat issue but less likely. you could have a faulty gas valve,gas shut off valve(at the pipe near the gas valve),leaky gas line or loose connection. unplug dryer and make a solution of soapy water and with a cotton ball wet the areas that you suspect has a leak. if you see bubbles then there is your leak or if you know someone that has an electronic detector better. lastly call gas co. or plumber.

Did you make sure the power outlet for the dryer is working--test with a working lamp. Do you get any lights or sounds? Do you have a wiring diagram for the machine? Sometimes, they place such information inside the machine in a packet where a service person would find it. If the machine has power, then you will need the diagram to trace the trouble area. Hope this helps!

You may need to replace the timer, but watch the video below and it will walk you thru the troubleshooting process. The timer not moving in the "auto sense" mode maybe due to a bad thermostat. Here is a link to the timer in case you need it.

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.
