Amana NDE7800AY Electric Dryer Questions & Answers
My Amana Drier Model LE8407W2
stopped
Most dryers are designed to be repaired from the rear. On the rear probably the whole back panel unscrews. Giving access to the duct where the heating element is located. Make sure to have the dryer unplugged while servicing it to prevent getting electrocuted. Your heating element will be inside of a metal duct that feeds hot air into the dryer remove it and inspect it for breaks in the coils of wire or burned areas. Having a good volt meter that checks continuity is a great tool to check dryer parts. There are several over heat sensors that can go bad over time to and can prevent the dryer from heating. These sensors and the heating element can all be checked using the volt meter on the continuity setting. Having a cell phone on hand helps to take pictures of wiring and connections inside the dryer before unhooking them to aid in reassembly. With sensors or element unplugged and a volt meter on continuity setting touch the red probe to one side of a connector and the black probe to the other side if there's no numbers or a beep on your volt meter suspect that part bad. I have fixed several dryers this way. Hope this helps you.
Hi, I have an NDE7800AZW
The "strap"(belt) is broken if you can hear the drive motor running and the dryer is heating when it is started but the drum does not turn. If no dryer function is working, the thermal fuse is blown. This thermal fuse is wired in series with the motor and
when it blows open, power to the motor is cut and consequently the dryer
will not start. No dryer function works when the motor cannot run.
Disconnect power supply to the unit then remove the screws located at the bottom edge of the service access panel to release and remove it.
Locate the heater assembly and check the continuity of the thermal fuse. If found open, replace it including the limit thermostat.
Amana NDE7800AZW Bulkhead and Heater PartsYou can bypass the thermal fuse for troubleshooting purposes. Disconnect
the wires of the fuse then connect them together and insulate the connection
properly. Reconnect power then start the dryer. The problem is
indeed in the thermal fuse if
the dryer starts. Replace both the thermal fuse and the limit thermostat and it should solve the problem. Please accept the solution
should you find it helpful and/or informative. Accepting it will not bar you from
posting comments or additional information. You can still communicate with the expert should you need further advice regarding the issue stated herein.
Dryer squeaks
Hi ecurb99...
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like the drum rollers are in need of lubrication, or maybe your drum belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
Note: This method works with most front loading machines.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer if you have to.
Note: Some tops hinge and tilt backwards so they do not have to be removed and the electrical console with stay with the lid.
Also remove the lint filter and the screws holding the lint filter housing in place.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer by removing two screws located on either side of the top of the dryer housing and unplug the door switch.
This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor. Now is a good time to replace the front felt seal on the drum if it needs to be replaced. Be sure to use a good grade of weatherproof cement on the seal to glue it to the drum, sometimes the glue is furnished with the seal.
Now is also a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear they will make a thumping type of noise.
If your drum rollers have too much wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them and are only squeeling then they probably only need lubrication.
Remove the rollers and clean the shafts that the roller rolls on, remove any hair, dust, etc from roller and shaft.
Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil, or a light lubricant like Vaseline.
Reassemble the dryer.
Plug back into your electrical receptical.
This should solve your noise problem.

Breaker trips when timer switch is rotated to any
One thing you might try is to select no heat and run an air fluff cycle and see if the breaker trips. If the breaker doesn't trip in air fluff then the problem is most likely with the element.
If the breaker still trips the the short might be in the motor circuit.
Post back your results.

Richard
What can be wrong when the dryer is running but
Hi
I
believe that everything else is fine rather it is the thermal fuse that is
located inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct that is bad and should be
replaced. If you want you can test this fuse for continuity and if it is bad
then it should be replaced, as it cannot be reset. If the fuse is fine then it
can be due to the control board that is bad and should be replaced.
Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

I have a speed queen
Hello James,
If you can rotate the dryer drum easily by opening the door and rotating by one of the drum baffles and it rotates easy and noise free, the problem is going to do a bad motor

The dryer works but there is no hot air. How can I
Ohm the heating element for continuity
There is a thermal cutoff at the top of the element case with 2 wires
Hook these two wires together for a check or ohm it for continuity. . The dryer should run. unless it is a more tech problem. Also check for 230 volt at the wall and at the service cord at the dryer. A dryer will run on 115 but it will not heat.
for more questions.

How d i replace a belt
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
If you have to replace your drum belt and if you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

Amana LEA20AW hums but does
yes it can be any of the
above problems which you mentioned causing the dryer to hum and not starting.
Here is a list of the probable causes::
#1 -NO power at the power cord at the walloutlet;; #1a- check the screw in
fuses or the double breaker for the dryer::: #2 - DEFECTIVE DOOR SWITCH :: #2a
-Test dorr switch with a VOLT OHMS METER THAT IS CAPABLE OF DOING 220 VOLTS YOU
WILL SEE THE DOOR SWITCH UNDER THE TOP OF THE DRYER CABINET< IT WILL BE A
BUTTON OR A LEAVER MOUNTED TO THE INSIDE OF THE CABINET:: Make sure the power
cord is disconnected and set the meter to RXI SCALE:: DISCONNECT THE WIRES
COMEING TO THE SWITCH <THEN TOUCH OR CLIP THE PROBS FROM THE METER TO THE
TERMINALS THE WIRES WERE HOOKED :: CLOSE THE SWITCH WITH YOU FINGER : IF THE
METER READS ZERO OHMS <THE SWITCH IS GOOD, If the meter reads high -it is
faulty REPLACE > :: HOOK THE WIRES BACK UP :: # #- Open circuit in the power
cord;; #3a- TO test the power cord - Remove the metal access plate Covering the
terminal block;; Clip the probs from your meter to the cord plug( NOTE -ON a
THREE WIRE CORD THE TWO OUTSIDE WIRES IN SIDE THE CORD ARE THE HOT WIRES THE
MIDDLE ONE IS THE GROUND WIRE ) USE A JUMPER WIRE . Hooked to each side of the
cord (AT THE TERMINAL BLOCK. Meter should still be set on RXI OHMS SCALE ; IF
THE METER READS ZERO CORD IS GOOD <IF IT READS HIGH or jumps THEN IT IS BAD
<AND NEEDS REPLACED : NOTE _ as you are testing the cord BEND IT FROM TOP TO
BOTTOM IN A ROLLING MONTION :: #4- FAULTY START SWITCH _ :: #4a- REMOVE THE TOP
CONTROL PANEL: GO TO THE START SWITCH < THERE WILL BE A COUPLE HEAVY WIRES
COMEING TO IT , REMOVE THEM . NOW CLIP OR HOLD THE PROBS <ONE TO EACH
TERMINAL : IF THE METER READS ZERO OHMS< When the switch button is pressed
in then the switch is ok , if it reads high ,it is defective ; replace switch;;
#5-DEFECTIVE TIMER :: #5
A - TO TEST THE TIMER ::
DISCONNECT THE WIRES COMEING TO IT AND CLIP THE PROBS TO THE WIRE TERMINALS
< TURN THE TIMER KNOB TO" NORMAL "DRY ,If the meter reads ZERO
OHMS< THE TIMER IS OK - IF IT READS HIGH ;THEN IT IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS
REPLACED ::: #6 - MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE WIRES YOU DISCONNECT ARE RECONNECTED
;; YOU ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THE MOTOR >IT MAY BE DEFECTIVE < AND WILL NEED
TO BE CHECKED .
On the dryer, with the door open while
pressing the start switch , try spinning the inside drum and see if it starts. If
it starts without humming . Then try to start it with
the door open and not holding the switch down, if it hums that means
This is a bad motor.
