This is expected behavior when batteries are replaced and you don't need to reset the device, simply adjust the contrast more than you would think it should take. See the answer to a similar question at When powered on the LCD screen is dark blue.

Press and hold the Control key marked with a green diamond, then press the minus key (above the + ) to lighten the screen. If you lighten the screen contrast too much you can darken it as follows:
To darken the screen press and hold the diamond key and press the + key.

You need to set the graphing mode to 3D. In 3D graphing the function is represented as z(x,y)=function of the variables x and y. Here are a few screen capture to show you how to set the thing up. Read the calculator manual. On the last screen are the parameters to change the point of view.

In the HOME screen press [2nd][6] (MEM) In the new scree press F1 Select what you want to reset. First try default.

The most likely answer is that the screen has partly failed. Another user said 'The TI-8X series of calculators work great as standalone calculators, ... I've purchased at least 3 TI-8x's over the years and all of them died (screen failure)'

If you are using the VTi virtual emulator (version 2.5) point to the screen and cilck the right mouse button. In the menu window that opens look for screen capture and choose the folder where you want to save the screen captured.

When you press [2nd][MEM] , then [F1] you get the following screen

where you have the choices of clearing 1:RAM, 2:Flash ROM;3: All Memory.
Press 1, 2, or 3 then press [ENTER] (OK)

You may be right. I have left batteries in my TI92 for years without using it. When I put in fresh batteries, it came back to life. The backup battery of my TI92 (bought a dozain years ago) has not been changed yet.
