Computing IRR calculator goes blank and outs Error 7

When computing IRR, after the cash flows are entered, the calculator goes blank for a very long time, over a minute and or two and then finally pops out "Error 7". We have experimented with various cash flows, problem persists. Looking forward to any help.

Computing N in a TVM calculation (receive Error 5 message)

I was wondering if there is a way to calculate the number of time periods, N, if the PV, FV and I/Y are entered? It doesn't seem to work for me.

For e.g. I/Y = 5/12 %, PV = 35,000, FV = 100,000, PMT = 0 (not applicable)
But when I press CPT and then press N it doesn't work (it gives an Error 5 message). I even tried P/Y = 12, I/Y = 5%, PV = 35,000, FV = 100,000 and PMT = 0 (not applicable) and it still gives me an error message.

If you could help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,
Just found out the answer!
Apparently you can't have both FV and PV positive. Try the calculation with one of them being negative.

Hello,
On calculators you calculate permutations and combinations as follows
Enter the number n then press key nPr, and the number r
18(nPr)5=1028160

For combinations, use nCr key instead of nPr.
18(nCr)5=8568.

Hope it helps

Using e on the BA II plus financial calculator

i need to solve the problem 20-18e^(-.10), and I don't know how to enter it into my calculator. The answer should be 3.71, but i keep on getting 19.83.

Hello,
To use the exponential function, you must enter the number then press [2nd][e to the x] or [e^x] for short.

e^(-0.1) is entered as (-)0.1 [2nd][e^x], where (-) is the change sign key
You will need to use extra parentheses to avoid errors.

20 - 18*( (-)0.1 [2nd][e^x] ) [=]
The Minus sign between 20 and 18 is the regular one. The (-) before the 0.1 is the change sign key (-) or sometimes labeled +/-. The asterisk is the multiplication sign.
Hope it helps.

is it possible to calculate cube root or higher

is it possible to calculate cube root or higher with BA ii plus?

To extract the roots of orders higher than 2, you can use the universal power key labeled as [Y to x]. if the exponent is an integer 3, 4, 5, 6 etc.
it gives the cube the 4th power, 5th, 6th, etc.
If the exponent is 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6 you calculate the cubic root, the 4th root and so on.
When you use it to calculate the roots, the radicand (the number the root of which you are calculating) must be positive, otherwise you may get the result as a complex number.

The syntax of the command is value [Y to x] (1/ order of root)

Ex: cube root of 27 is entered as 27 [Y to x] (1/3)

Error 5 indicates that no solution exists. In an IRR problem, the most likely cause is that there was not at least one sign change in the cash flow list.
