You have a bad SCANNER BLOCK. Expensive to repair.

You will need to close the back cover. The reason its comming out the back because it has been left open.

You have a bad Scanner Block.....Expensive !!

For ink on the glass use glass cleaner with ammonia, for whiteout, use isopropyl alcohol on a cloth. be gentle.

Open up the document feeder and clean the scanner glass. If the streak is larger than 1/4 " wide, you have a bad scanner block.

I recommend to clean out an optics. Take apart a cartridge and well blow through, clean the rollers and contacts.

It sounds like one of the keys is stuck down.

The error 71 indicates to "Unplug unit, and call Brother" after calling Brother they will refer you to an authorized dealer for repair which costs more than a brand new unit.

To install your fax4100, you will need to install the appropriate drivers for your OS.

For windows XP

For windows 7 the drivers are built in.
If you do not find the drivers, please do a windows update.
You may need to do the windows update more then once.

Wow. It's obscure and in the manual on page 13-24. Remove and replace the drum leaving the front cover open. Press CLEAR and then 1 to answser the Replace Drum YES question.

No, once it is printed it is cleared from the memory.

The only thing that could stop you from sending a fax or not get a dial tone, would be the connection to the phone line. Make sure the telephone wire is plugged into the line jack (not ext jack) and should go straight to the wall, without splitters or extensions. If you still cannot send a fax, try another wire or jack
