Feed dog & auto threader problems.
Remove the needle plate and clean the lint from between the teeth of feeddogs, also around and inside bobbin case.
The switch for the feeddogs is to raise (normal sewing) or lower (free motion) and if there is no difference, the accumulated lint will have made a felt pad between the teeth forcing the feeddogs to stay down and present with the problem you describe.
When things go a little "weird", the common instinct is OIL EVERYTHING............DON'T DO IT !!! ....this is rarely the solution on its own account, and can make the servicing a great deal longer as the excess must be removed........little oil regularly, not a bucketful every 5 years is a better approach.
About my needle thread tension know
If you contact you local Brother retailer and explain the problem and give your model number they ought to be able to order a replacement which you can install yourself, or, probably more prudent, ask them if they will do it and also check for any other associated "modifications" made by the little fellow.

Whether the machine is front or top loading, the relationship between the needle and the hook is the key to timing.
Take a look at this and see if you can adapt it to your machine, the theory is the same.....the relative position of the needle rising 2mm with the hook just so.......the method of disengaging the main horizintal shaft and hook gear may be slightly different to this, so see how you get on.

Check for a broken belt. If it is gear driven a set screw may have come loose on the spindal inside. Some also have a clutch wheel it the rear and if that is not tightened down it won't spin.
How to thread the machine and bobbin
you can just search the web for the kind of machine you have and there should be a place where you can find a manual. Try ebay, they have just about anything. good luck with your sewing!!!!!!!! sandylou
Reverse lever
lever must be locked in. if possible, you must open it and try to look for something blocking it. maybe a faulty spring or something.
Timing problem
You might have to look at loosening the set screws for the gear on the lower shaft that drives the hook driver gear . Loosen the screws, slide the gears apart, then adjust the hook so it is entering the scarf of the needle on the upstroke. Slide the gears togeather so they mesh again and it should be back in time. There are other factors though such as needle height adjustment which is done with the needle bar and hook and needle clearance (the distance between the needle and hook) which should be about .030.
I'm a Bernina tech but many machines work the same principle.
Good luck.
Threading the bobbin
Get a manual from http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com
If you do not see it listed ask if they have it off line.

It sounds like you may have uneven tension between the bobbin thread and the upper thread.
You can adjust the tension via a screw on the bobbin case. Turn it clockwise to tighten the bobbin thread tension and counter clockwise to reduce it.
It's also worth remembering to check the tension on the presser foot for the material you are using. Check also that the shuttle race is clear of lint etc.
Hope this helps

- In the event that changing the needle didn't determine the issue, have a go at rethreading the machine, guaranteeing legitimate pressure, and cleaning the bobbin region for any build up or garbage. On the off chance that the issue continues to happen, consider counseling the machine manual or looking for proficient help.
