You should be able to fix this. IF it is the top thread on your fabric that is screwy you need to adjust the bobbin tension.
If it is the bottom thread you have a problem with your upper tension. Blow out the upper tension assembly using canned air, the tension discs may be dirty

Ok, since you said a needle broke, that is a good indication of where to look. You obviously already installed a brand new needle (which is the first thing to do). Verify that you have installed the needle facing the correct direction--there is usually a flat surface on the needle that needs to face a particular direction in the machine. Remove the bobbin from the machine and rethread it and install it correctly in the machine. If you've done all of this and the machine still will not pick up the bobbin thread, the bad news is that the broken needle may have knocked the machine out of time. Sorry, that happens a lot with broken needles. You will probably need to take it for service as the needle and hook timing are out of sync.

make sure the zig zag stitch is in the O position

Look for a dial or switch under your machine, it may be difficult to move! Good luck!

It sounds like you maybe using the wrong needle size for the material you are sewing, or perhaps it is the thread. I've found that not all threads are created equal and it may be too fine/heavy for the needle gauge your using.

No that is not a walking foot machine. There are no industrial walking feet that will last.

belt not tight enough

top tension is to tight, loosen it (the tension above the needle)

not threaded properly

Lift the presser foot when you thread the machine and this should resolve the problem.

When the foot is up, the tension is open and can accept the thread as it should.

When the foot is down, the tension can control the flow of thread according to the setting you have selected.

New needle. Try to find the Schmetz brand, they are the best.
