Bobbin shuttle
1. Clean shuttle with your sewing machine brush to remove old broken threads, lint, and sweep out the feed dogs carefully.
2. Rethread making sure you have the handwheel turned toward you, all the way up.
3. Lift presser foot up BEFORE you put thread front to back in eye needle.
4. Set machine on straight stitch sewing. Attach straight stitch foot if necessary.
5. Make sure 5-6 inches of thread are pulled toward you from threaded needle.
6. Pull up bobbin thread.
7. Pull 5-6 inches of bobbin thread and put it, along with needle thread under presser foot.
8. Put fabric scrap under presser presser foot and LOWER it now. Make sure, too, that the needle is correct size for fabric you're sewing.
9. Do a test. You may need to set tension at 4, stitch length at about 4 and width at 6. Just test it and adjust tension in very, very short turns.
Another tip: Put one drop of good quality sewing machine oil on the hook, lower left-hand side. Make sure when you thread bobbin in the bobbin case to hold bobbin between thumb and forefinger and pull out about 4 inches of thread after you make sure thread unwinds top left (if you are right-handed!).
Guide the thread into the slot in edge of bobbin case (screw sits on top of this "edge".
Pull thread under tension spring and then into the delivery eye.
Never panic, my friend! Try this and see if this helps.
You should probably insert new needle too--just in case "old" one bent.

MY machine is really loud
Hi there:
You directed this question at me, but unfortunately this isn't my expertise and I am unable to
provide you with a real solution at this time.
Hopefully one of other experts will be able to
provide you with a real solution.
Thank you for using FixYa
I keep missing a stitch
Skipping stitches can be caused by a bent or dull neeedle or a needle that is not suited for the fabric you are sewing on.
Bobbin position
sewing machines will not sew if the bobbin is not in correctly
Brother xl 2230 - cannot fill spool as holder does
Check the bobbin winder rubber......remove the top cover and take a look.
Remove worn rubber and use as a sample when you go to the Brother Store....also have your model number handy.
If you cannot access easily, phone Brother store and ask for a quote to replace.....if it is any more serious they should confirm with you prior to doing additional work.
Correct topstitch tension
Same as normal seam if machine is operating fine, 4-5. If you are seeing the bottom thread on top, then maybe youneed to finess the bottom tension by a tiny amount. Check out www.sewusa.com then repair then tension settings page for good images on adjusting bobbin case tension. Just turn tension screw very smll amount then test again. Also if machine has not had a service in last 2 years then maybe take it in fir one. Good clean, lube and calibration is sometimes needed.

Tension problem
Set the top tension as recommended by the mfg - this is usually between 3 - 6.
Now re-thread the machine with the presser foot up and see if this doesn't eliminated the loopy stitches.
What appears to be an issue with the bobbin may actually be the top thread was not seated into the tension during threading and the tension cannot control the flow of thread to the needle and you get a loopy stitch.
Keep the bobbin case clean as built-up lint can cause stitching problems.

I lost the Buttonhole fine-adjustment screw for
I just wanted to share my situation with you. I had the same problem. When I tried to use my Buttonhole fine-adjustment screw, it broke up and fell inside the machine. My husband opened the machine to get the broken parts out (two of them: first one - white-colored plastic broken part of the adjustment screw and a metal, half-moon shaped washer). I called 1-877-276-8437 (BROTHER), and the person who checked the list of replacement parts said to me that this particular screw was not in the list. So that person gave me the number of the closest service center where I called. The service person told me that it was no cost to see what was the problem, but to determine how much the solution would cost he needed to see the machine. I asked about the minimal cost of a service; it was $89+ the cost of the parts. It means the minimal cost of the repair (without the price of the replacement part) goes 14 dollars beyond the price of a new machine, which in Amazon.com today 10/2011 is $75 for the same model LS-2125(i). My solution was to get out the broken part for which my husband unscrewed for me the front plastic shell and took out the two little broken parts. During this procedure, he realized I could use a narrow scissors to make the remaining part of the Buttonhole fine-adjustment screw turn around. This way I can still use my machine with no need of buying a new one.
