We changed computers and now the designer SE software does not find the dongle.
The Designer SE software does not use a dongle. If you are attempting a "Smart Update" on the Designer SE and it asks if you use a dongle, just say no and the update on the machine will run.
If you have 3D or 4D software, it uses the dongle and it will be USB. Download the latest driver for your software from the Husqvarna Viking website. The link is through the homepage at Husqvarnaviking.com/us . Click links on the left side of the screen for 4D Software, Help & Updates, and Other Useful Software at the bottom of the page. This will have the latest 3D driver. 4D will require the latest update to the software and a firmware upgrade to the dongle. Run Smart Update on the software and then get the firmware update that is directly below the 3D HASP driver on the Other Useful Software page.

I would like to go in and adjust the thread tension of the machine but do not know how to get into the service menu.
Hold down the start button and the presser foot pivot buttons at the same time and turn on the power. The machine will make a funny noise and the test screen will come up. You then need to find the sub-menu, I think it says tensions on it but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know how to change the 3.5 floppy drive on the machine to a USB drive? I refuse to pay over 500.00 for this. I know other people have changed the floppy just don't know how they did it.l
First you need the USB upgrade kit that has the connectors and parts to change the cover of the machine.
Next, you will need a new main circuit board if your machine was made prior to about 2006.
At this point, the cost of parts is about $489. If you can get someone to install these for $10, you can get this done for under $500.
Otherwise, go to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer and check into trading your Designer 1 in for a Designer SE. You will then be able to plug in an external 3.5 floppy drive to read your old disks, a USB stick, or plug directly into your computer and read them from the hard drive (an upgraded Designer 1 can read ONLY from the stick). Used Designer SE's are very reasonably priced since the introduction of the Designer Diamond as the new top of the line and you may be able to get a full manufacturers warranty on the gently used machine.

I installed VIP customizing plus on my computer, but when i plug in the dongle and install the dongle software it either says program could not be installed properly and that the dongle may be made for windows 98 or latter, or it goes to the blue error screen, and then does not work when i restart.
I am running windows XP
I have tried downloading updates etc from the Husqvarna website, and following the alternate dongle software installation, but it still does not work. I have tried so many different ways so often, I'm getting very frustrated. Pleast help.
You probably need to install the XP drivers for the dongle. I don't have the exact website at my fingertips (brain tips?) right now, but if you visit Jan Henning's Sew Much 4 Retirement website I think she has it amongst her Tips section. I had a similar problem years ago, but solved it by putting the installation CD into the computer, not running the automatic Install, then opening the program. It then goes looking for the dongle driver on the CD. This solution does not work for everyone, some need to download the drivers off the internet.

I need the driver installation for my XP computer for the d-card reader/writer for my Husqvarna Viking Designer II sewing machine.
Drivers are on the installation disk. 3D will have it on cd#1 and 4D on the dvd. With the disk in the drive, plug the dCard reader/writer in and use the "add new hardware" wizard to allow the drivers to install automatically. Now,either repeat this for each usb port or remember to always plug in to the same port.

my laptop which has windows 7 on it does not recognize mmy dongle
there is an update for windows 7 and dongles at the husqvarna viking website.
From Husqvarna Viking website -
When installing the 4D Embroidery System onto Windows 7 computers, the dongle drivers may not initially work correctly, as the 4D Embroidery System installs a set of dongle drivers which were created before Windows 7.
Download and install the latest dongle drivers prior to installing the 4D Embroidery System. Failure to do this, may result in the "Dongle driver not found (E0009)" when you try to open the 4D modules.
Please follow the steps below to install the latest dongle drivers BEFORE installing the 4D Embroidery System
If you installed the 4D Embroidery System software before installing the latest dongle drivers and if you experience problems such as the error message "Unable to start hasplms service..."; download and install the latest Dongle Drivers.
link to latest Dongle Drivers - http://vsmsoftware.net/downloads/HASP/HASPUsersetup.exe
Husqvarna Viking - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com
If you are still unable to get it to work, visit your local authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. Most stores have staff who are eager to help but you might want to call for an appointment
Good luck..

I have just bought a Quilt Designer II, together with 4D Embroidery Extra ad 4D d-Card Reader/Writer kit. I have installed software for Card-Reader but when I try to save to it I’ve had various messages, all basically stating that the card is not recognized or there is no communication between the computer and the reader. I tried inserting the Embroidery cards that come with the hoops, but these cannot be read.
I inserted my 4D Embroidery Extra CD and uninstalled and then reinstalled drivers for XP. It went through a process that I had not seen before. I then went into 4D and tried to transfer data to the card-reader and it stated ‘ all data will be deleted’ so I clicked OK and it did go through transferring the data on to the card. I then went into Accessories and card reader to see if I could read the card and it stated that the d card was not an embroidery d card – which it was!
I think I tried to transfer data once again to the card-reader. It stated again that all data would be deleted to which I clicked OK, but when it tried to transfer it showed the window of transferring data, but nothing happened after 10 minutes. I retried and message came up ‘Error – cannot write to d-card’.
Messages that have come up:
''No d-Card Reader/Writer unit is connected'' error message? – BUT IT WAS
Error: ''No d-Card is inserted'' – IT WAS
''Cannot write to d-Card''
''The d-Card is not an Embroidery d-Card'' – EVEN THOUGH IT IS
Any ideas – my system is Windows XP 2002
I have been having the same problem. I was told that the 4-d software is not compatible with Windows 7.

My Designer 1 touch screen is not responding. I know how to calibrate it, but can't do even that until I can select the options on the screen. Is there a way to unlock it?
I have this information from a person who was a Husqvarna Designer expert: When you just can't get to the menus at
all: came with the machine would be better ) and
Turn the machine off.
Then hold down the "Reverse"
and "Pivot" buttons and power it back on.
You now
have the setup screen.
Touch the "Needle Down"
button and you will see the crosses.
Use a small blunt object
like the metal end of the buttonhole foot (the stylus that
touch the centre of
the crosses and each will turn green. Then click on
"save".

My machine is acting like it has a short, in that it works sometimes, but more often, not. Everything else works. I have no one locally that is certified for repairs and I have to drive over an hour to get repairs done. As it is a Jo-Ann's, I cannot even talk to the repair person directly. I took the machine in over a year ago, told the sales person I wanted it serviced and mentioned the problem. Because it decided to work when returned to me and then stopped working again, the problem was never resolved. And that cost over $100! Please, help. Thanks.
Sounds to me like the plug-in connector from the screen is not firmly attached to the motherboard (directly behind the screen but inside the machine). This kind of problem doesn't take a factory trained technician. Ask various sewing machine dealers to whom they subcontract cleaning and adjustment. Ask people who sew whether they have the name of a repair person. Taking apart the machine and replugging the connection should be all of a 15 minute job.
