Thread is knotting up on bottom of fabric causing it to stop

1.check the needle & see if it's bent--if so replace
2.lay the needle on a flat surface & roll the needle over if it doesn't roll true replace
3.check for blunt needle-if needle makes a popping sound when needle penetrates fabric
4.needle is not all way up in holder
on my mechanical sewing machine sometimes the threads come off the take up lever, that causes the thread to bunch up under something I'm working on
also check thread in bobbin

Electrical problem?

Neither the needle up/down or the LED for the stitch selector will work if the bobbin winding pin/holder is pushed to the right (meaning pushed into the winding position). If you accidentally left the winding pin/holder pushed over, you will lose the functions of both the LEAD and the needle up/down button! (Neither of these functions can work while in bobbin winding mode!)

I noticed on a pack of quilting needles it said they stopped skipped stitsches, so maybe you need a different kind of needle with less drag

I cant figure out how to fill the bobbin

it's possible that your thread guide may be off some & needs to be adjustedor the bobbin isn't being pushed down far enough on the spindle to click into place to hold good

Janome 4623 le bottom tension loose

adjust the top tension up one number at a time & then sew a sample, if it's still loose then increase one more number until you get the desired stitch.

LED that illuminates the stitch selection bar quit

Check your bobbin spindle. If engaged (pushed toward the right) LED will not light. When the clutch knob is pulled out, when you wind a bobbin, the up & down needle will not move. So you must push the clutch knob in again to let the up & down needle go up and down. The clutch knob on my machine is in the large hand wheel upper right side of my machine.

I have a newish 2nd

Have you got the thread through the take up lever correctly? If its not threaded this will cause the needle thread to be pulled backwards. Just recheck all the threading paths from spool to needle have been done correctly.

My fabric wasn't moving so

Hello

Turn off the power. Remove the accessory compartment located in front of the machine, if applicable.

Open the hook cover that shields the bobbin area. Please note that you do not need to remove the bobbin case.

Locate the drop feed lever near the bobbin case. Some machines have the lever towards the back of the free arm. Press down on the lever and then move it to the next notch or position. The raised metal feed dogs should be visible through the openings on the needle plate. You may need to rotate the big balance wheel one rotation to engage the mechanism on some machine models. The metal teeth will then spring up.

Close the hook cover. Insert the accessory compartment, if applicable.

Turn on the power. Try test stitching a piece of fabric. The raised feed dogs should help guide the fabric under the presser foot.

Im using a free mashine

First make sure you have a good quality cotton thread. I like to use Mettler silk finish 50 weight natural color. Start by sewing a straight stitch on two layers of light cotton fabric. You should have a tension the looks the same on both sides of the fabric when you sew. Adjust the tensions, if nessesary, and then try a sample on a practice sandwich. You might have to increase the top tension just slightly.

Mine is apart around the bobbin case - do I oil

Your manual show tell you where to oil and where not to. If you do not have your manual, I suggest going to www.sewingmanualsonline.com and download a copy for $10. It is well worth it and you have a permanent copy.

How do I reset the timing on my machine. Machine

Sounds more like you have a serious thread or fabric jammed in your machine. I would definately check that before I tried messing with the timing because if you dont have the know how or tools you can destroy your machine for good. Ask my sister, she knows first hand.

Singer 404 sewing machine

I would first make sure the thread tension is adjusted properly. if this does not fix your issue, check the point on the shuttle hook and make sure it is not broken off. it should come to a needle sharp point. if the tip is broken off it may not pick up the thread from the needle properly. then double check the timing and the needle shaft depth. first, make sure your needle is fully seated and tightened down. the groove in the needle should face forward. there are two timing marks on the needle shaft. at maximum depth you should see both lines and the top line should be right at the bottom of the needle shaft bushing. then as the shaft goes back up, when the bottom line is at the bottom of the bushing the point of the shuttle hook should be right behind the needle and centered in the indentation on the back of the needle. you may need to make minor adjustments on the needle shaft depth depending on what brand and type of needles you are using.

Skipped stitches and getting worse

It might be that you have the wrong needle/ thread combination for the fabric that you are using. sharps for wovens, ball point for knits. the heavier the fabric and the thicker the thread the larger needle you need to use.
