iam reliable informed that you will need to change the needle by the one who controls this machine in our house for different thickness materials you need different size needles ,or you will get exactly the problems you describe ,iam told to look in the book and see whats suggested for this sort of material ,as some of the smaller machines will not go through tougher type materials and some jean material you will have to do it by hand with a special long needle ,the type of needle i use on my boat for the awnings and sail .

If you mean spool, then it may be inserted wrongly or there may be broken threads stuck in the raceway causing it to jam. The thread should also be running clockwise in the bobbin

Hi Nicola
Try the janome website.
I couldn't find a manual for the model you mention, but I did find one for the Jem Gold 660, it should be similar enough.
http://www.janome.com/documents/File/ManualFile/JemGold660.pdf
If you need pictures of the Janome 659, just do a google search for images of Janome 659, like this:
http://www.google.es/images?hl=es&q=janome%20659&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi
To save the images to your computer, just click on them to get them full size, then left click on the full size image and choose save.
Hope this helps, Hazel x

To locate janome sewing machine manual

Hi
I had a look on the Janome site and couldn't find a manual for your machine.
I did find one for a Gem Gold 660, perhaps it is similar to your machine?
http://www.janome.com/documents/File/ManualFile/JemGold660.pdf
It should be enough to give you a basic dea of the different parts and how to thread the machine etc.
Hope this helps, Hazel

Threads are not locking in place while sewing

This could simply be a bent or damaged needle, change it and make sure the needle is designed for the material being sewn.

Tension issues with the bobbn area

No, I have not had a consistent problem with this.

What looks like a bobbin issue could be a threading issue.

If a sewing machine is threaded with the presser foot down, the tension control does not capture the thread as it should. The top thread then cannot form a proper stitch with the bobbin thread.

If I forget to have the presser foot up when I thread, then I get loose stitching on top and loopy stitches on the bottom.

My two year old son just pulled the spring off

Call your local Janome dealer and ask if someone can look at the machine while you wait.

When my children were little I kept the sewing machine closed and sewed while they napped.

Bobbin thread keeps breaking

Could well be that the bobbin tension is too tight, you should only just be able to pull the bottom thread through with slight resistence, if it is too tight slacken the screw on the bobbin case anti clockwise about a quarter of a turn at a time and test until you get it right,

My sewing thread keeps breaking

Have you put your needle in the right way and not back to front. Make sure that the groove in the needle is to the front.

Bobbin thread breaks after stitching

It depends on your machine. Some machine have a bobbin case that you take out a insert your bobbins. That has a screw to tighten or loosen the tension. If you have a drop in bobbin make sure you insert the bobbin the right way.
