Letture leaf edging

From "Serge With Confidence" by Nancy Zieman:

Set the machine up for a 3-thread rolled edge. Normal width; length 1 - 2.

Use Woolly Nylon in the loopers & regular thread in the needle.

Lock or disengage the cutting blade.

Guide fabric along the right edge of the presser foot.

Stretch and equal amount from fron to back while serging.

Lower the differential feed, if available to about 0.6.

Serge at a slow to moderate speed.

Practice with scraps first.

After serging, gently stretch & release the fabric edge after serging.

Power is going into the machine light working but

May be one of three things:
A) foot pedal may have burnt out (this is common-is this perhaps where the smell was coming from?)
B)The belt inside the machine may have worn out
C)You may have actually worn out he motor, depending on how long you have had the machine.
Suggestion for all three-take it to your reputable sewing machine repair person. It will likely cost about $100. I take my machine in every 6 months for a 'tune'up', and it has proven to be a wise move, since I use my overlock frequently.

Jumping stitches.

Replace the needles and choose size according to the thickness/weight of the fabric you are serging.

You may have to re-thread, here is a video from Threadbanger - http://www.allbrands.com/products/abp08027.html

How do I overlock stretch fabrics so the stitches

I suggest also setting the stitch length to about 2 (very close together). When the stitch is shorter, it seems to be able to give a little more. I also use woolly nylon, but I still had the problem (especially when hemming). This is how I solved my problem....

Upper looper will not saty trheaded to sew what

You have to thread the needles last.

1 - Take the threads out of both needles.
2 - Thread both loopers according to the diagram on your serger.
3 - Thread the needles.

If this fails, you need to bring it to a pro for service.
