Needle up/down button doesn't work
Replacement button may still be available, it is really just a tiny push switch and can become faulty.

Mx3123
Mostly it happens when tensioner is to tight. Try letting off tension a little at the time.
Does the new home 3123 need oiling ?
the user manual for the machine will show oil points and how often to do it. If you do not have a user manual go to google and type in new home 3123 and download the manuals from the site.
Janome New Home mx3123 reverse button not working
1/28/13 - I have Janome Harmony 2049 that was initially sewing forward with no reverse and then after about 12 inches of sewing would ONLY sew in reverse. After spending an hour getting the plastic housing off...I was able to locate the shaft that made the reverse. It needed lubrication and after working it in and unjamming the part from the down position, the forward and reverse now work!Huh, right? Hope it continues to work well. It is a smooth running machine, otherwise. Good luck!
Tension adjustment is too loose
Make sure you are threading it correctly (with the foot in the up position) and check that there is no fuzz trapped between the tension discs. (use unwaxed dental floss)
Need instructions on button holes
Move the width bar to between 4 and 6, the higher number makes a wider buttonhole. Move the length bar to the middle or right of the buttonhole icon. Set the selector dial on #1, snap on the buttonhole foot with a button snugged up in the back slot. Pull down the button stop lever behind the needle threader and make sure it is lower than the edge of the buttonhole foot, and behind the little tab on the left side of the buttonhole foot. Position the needle over where you want the bottom of the buttonhole to be. It will bartack, sew backwards, bar tack and sew forward based on the size of your button. When it is finished it will stop sewing. Turn the stitch selector dial to #2 to reset, then back to #1 to sew the next buttonhole. Practice on scraps until you are happy with the stitch length and width.
How do i make the needle stop in the down position
You can't - it is only designed to always stop in the up position, then you can manually push the "needle down" button to make the needle go down while you turn a corner. The next model up the 4263 had the "stop down" option. Sorry.
Where is the indicator to
it is the big knob on the right hand side below the bigger wheel that moves the needle bar up and down. You have to turn it clockwise to move the indicator to the right all the way to # 13 for straight stitch. It will make a loud click with every move. Make sure the needle is raised up because it jumps back and forth as you move the dial. When you make a buttonhole using pattern 1, when one finishes you turn the dial to #2 then back to #1 to reset the program. I have one right in front of me if you have more questions. This is an AWESOME machine and should never wear out :o)
Janome machine going backwards
sounds like a screw may have become missing to keep the reverse knob in its proper position so it is backwards inside the machine
Started sewing backwards now not moving material at all
Sounds like the machine's age is causing the lubrication to get sticky.
Try changing the pattern by moving the pattern selector around.
Take out the bobbin and remove the thread and presser foot, raise the presser lever, set the pattern to zig zag, set the stitch length to maximum and run the machine at full speed. While it's running, repeatedly press the reverse lever all the way down. Run it for at least a few minutes.
