Open a browser window, type the address of the router, and you should see the administrator page. Enter the default user name and password which is usually on a label. Now you see the web site of your router. Follow instructions on the screen to change settings, including the password.

As explained on page 22 (40/130 in Adobe Reader) of that model's manual ( http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/at_home/Cable_Modems/2300_Series/4042831_A.pdf ), by default there is *no* username or password set. So you leave those fields blank and click OK. Upon first login, you will be sent to the password setup page... if you don't set a password, you will be presented that page at every login until you do set one.

plug ethernet cable directly between a pc and router and then type in dos prompt ipconfig to find ip address of default gateway if this is the only router. Then note ip addressd it will be most likely 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 and put this into an internet brower url address box and you should be able to log into the router unless it has a password and user name set . Go may need to google the default user name and password for the router . go into wireless security settings and then you should be able to change the encryption key.

It depends on the manufacturer. Read the manual for your router to find the default gateway. For some routers the IP address is 192.168.1.1

Leave username and password empty, just click ok.
