it does sound as if the sprung bracket is not holding the case in position. Move the latch to the right, remove and install the case and then move the retainer back into its proper position

take the machine back and get them to show you have to do the bobbin and then if they can't get the machine bobbin to load, tell them you want another one..I've been sewing for over 25 years, and that's what I'd do

Most toploading drop in bobbins are similar though so even if you can't find the exact singer manual, try looking at a few others and see if they are similar to your machine.

Generally, the bobbin will need to go into the bobbin holder and the thread needs to be clicked into a tension spring, then the thread reverses direction in a "V' shape and goes out to the side to be caught by the top thread.

Generally, this is because the needle is either inserted incorrectly or because it's bent. Even if it doesn't look bent, it can be ever so slightly that you can't even see it with the naked eye. See if changing the needle corrects the problem, and be sure to insert the needle with the flat side of the shaft facing away from you.

Call Singer at 1-800-4singer and see if they will send you a manual, in the mean time google how to thread a sewing machine and there are some great videos available for free.

I think the needle may be bent, try a new one. If, you do not have a manual you can buy one from Singerco.com for $15. it may not be a bad investment. Also, there is a toll free customer service number, 1-800-4singer. Good luck
