Feed dog is stuck

I have the same problem...this is a work around, not a fix. You need a small flat-head screwdriver. 1. Remove the clear bobbin cover. 2. Make sure the feed dog switch is in the DOWN position. 3. Slide the screwdriver under the feeddogs from inside the bobbin area & lift the feed dogs. 4. While holding the feed dogs in the up position, return the feed dog knob to the up position. You have to do this every time you put the feed dogs down...bummer, but I can find no broken part or adjustment that corrects this. If it's inside the machine body, I don't mess with it... I did take off the bottom plate in the feed dog area..one screw holds it.... there is nothing there to indicate a problem.

Where to oil machine

You need to lubricate everywhere motion occurs as well as anywhere friction happens (joints and gears). The needle hammer is the most obvious point, but the shuttle friction points are key spots as well. I find it is more important to clean out the dust and debris than actually lubing the parts.. Lots of loose threads and fabric dust seem to accumulate all over and especially where lube is present.. First clean off stuff and then lube in those spots... Also good to replace grease on gears and bearings every couple of years too (more invasive, but keeps the wearing parts healthier)...

Top thread will not loop bobbin thread

Try re treading it. After you have guided the thread thru the eye of the needle turn the wheel until the needle goes all the way down. Keep turning and as the needle starts to come up pull on the needle thread and it should loop the bottom thread and pull until both come back to the top. Now you are ready to sew.

What are the dial for tension to be set at.

Hello Michele, I would check to see if the machine is threaded correctly. Your problem could be in the thread take up arm and thread tensioner.

Why does the top thread on my brother sewing machine bunche up on the bottom side of my material?

The routine answer is that the top tension isn't working correctly. There may be a bit of lint or thread caught between the tension discs. Try taking a length of thread about 3 feet long and feed it into the tension and pull it out again several times. Thread the machine with the presser foot up until ready to thread the needle. then lower the presser foot and check for tension. If OK thread the needle and begin sewing. If not, start over by pulling thread through the tension. Then repeat trial. If still not OK, send the machine in for service. Good luck.

Melodie 40

I\'m not sure what you mean by "reel", but if you are referring to the spool pin which holds your thread, then you don\'t really have to have that. I use a spool stand instead. Then I can use any kind of thread without having to buy the little bitty spools. This is just an example of one style of thread holder. It is by far the cheapest way to replace a missing thread pin. Amazon com Single Cone Thread Stand With Metal Base Thread Cone Rack Some people also use a simple cup, and drop the thread inside, so that it doesn\'t unroll all over the work surface. Then thread the machine normally. If the thread needs to be directed to the first spot, a binder clip, attached to the handle of your machine, works really well as an extra "eye" to put the thread through, and secures it quite well.

Feed dog timing

It would be in the Service Manual for your machine. That is a common adjustment that technicians make quite often. It's usually a matter of loosening one or two Allen screws, adjusting to the correct position, and tightening the screws again. Sounds like over time, the screws in your machine have worked themselves loose.

How to remove the bobbin case

Go back to the manual and make sure you are following instructions for removal first. (Here is a link if you don't have the manual http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals ). Second, it could be that there is a ball of knotted thread from the bobbin holding it all down. If that is the case, trim any loose threads away and keep the upper thread out of the bobbin. If the machine has seized up, though, you will probably have to take it to a professional.

Singer 2662-when I press the foot control the motor revs but doesn't make the needle go up and down.

Most sewing machines have a switch to position for sewing or for spinning bobbins. Make sure it is in the sewing position and not for spinning bobbins. I have several sewing machines (not your model) and they all do that if they are set for spinning bobbins.

Singer 2662 bobbin case keeps popping out.

Check our bobbin for burrs and damage. If the thread catches a rough edge it can pop the bobbin out. Try a different bobbin with new thread... see if that helps. If it does your current bobbin is likely trash. Hope that helps.

How to thread the bobbin

Are you trying to thread the bobbin for winding or for sewing?

For sewing, make sure the needle is fully up and then release the bobbin cover plate. Insert the bobbin so that the bobbin rotates counter-clockwise. Pull the thread through the slot at the center-front of the bobbin case. Hold down the bobbin with a finger then bring the thread to the left and through the slot on that side. You should here a clicking sound when you pull on the thread. Leave 6" of thread free and replace the cover plate. Refer to the manual (page 12) for pictures.

Many Singer sewing machine manuals are available for sale or download here: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals . The direct link to the manual for the 2662 is here: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/429_2662_efs.pdf . See page 11 and 12.

If the bobbin thread isn't feeding, clean the hook and surrounding area. Then with the presser foot down, retry. If you aren't hearing the clicking sound when the thread is pulled, you may need the bobbin tension adjusted. There is a small set screw for the adjustment but it's really easy to damage the threads. If you still have a problem, the bobbin case or shuttle race may need to be replaced (See http://parts.singerco.com/CPpartCharts/2_2999/2662.pdf for the parts breakdown).

I hope this helps.

Singer sewing manual for 252 down load free

Singer and White owners: you have a fantastic resource at the Singer website for manuals

Link is http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals
type in your model number, then click "search"

In the case of Whites, add a W in front of the model number.

Wait a bit for the page to respond but if the manual is free it will come up as "Download", click and wait again, they are big pdf files so take bit over the internet to load.

Now save the file to your PC, print it out, bind it if you can or put into a display book with clear page pockets. Voila, manual at your fingertips!!
