How to adjust bobbin case for proper movement.

  1. Using a doubled piece of fabric similar to what you have in mind for your project, sew a seam on the diagonal-pulling the fabric on the diagonal to break the threads. (Ideal tension would either break neither thread or break both threads. So, a single breaking thread signals that the tension needs adjusting.)
  2. Snap out the faceplate to remove it & to gain access the bobbin area below the sewing needle.
  3. Remove the bobbin case & bobbin-lifting the hinged latch that you would to wind a new bobbin-leaving the bobbin in the case. (You need it in there to feel the tension as you adjust it.)
  4. Using a small screwdriver, very slightly turn the screw on the side of the bobbin case clockwise to increase tension; counterclockwise to decrease tension.
  5. Pull the bobbin thread while you hold the bobbin in its case & feel the thread's tension. Too tight of tension would prevent the thread from dispensing (& possibly break), but too loose of tension would allow the bobbin to fall out of its case.
  6. Return the bobbin case to the sewing machine & close the faceplate.
  7. Repeat this whole routine from Step One on the doubled fabric. Stitching should run along both the top & the bottom in the same way-locking in the center. A diagonal pull of the fabric should show which thread(s) break(s). Repeat Steps Two through Four to only adjust the screw aside the bobbin case in order to allow the threads to lock in the center of the fabric with both threads having the same break or no-break result.

My singer 2732 sewing machine will not pick up bobbin thread

There are three causes. Make sure your needle is all the way up in the needle clamp, and the flat side it on the back (if your bobbin is in the front of the needle). If it is, then your timing is out of synch, and you will need to get a technician to fix it.

Singer 2732 thread not staying on the take up lever

it's a problem with the thread take up lever, either put a small piece of tape on the take up lever or take a pair of pliers and carefully place a cloth over the take up lever and close the take uplever a little but don't damage the take up lever if you don't have a manual, here is a link for a free manualhttp://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1313_2732.pdf

Buttonhole

I'm afraid that you are unable to correct this glitch on your own. Any sewing machine service center/shop will do...call around and look for the shop with the lowest 'minimum' charge. It is such a simple fix. However, although simple, the adjustment is so incrementally precise that without thorough understanding, your stich patterns could be rendered unuseable. I have no idea of the current value of your sewing machine, but if you deem the repair costs prohibitive, there is a workaround so you can complete your buttonhole. Complete your buttonhole setup as normal. I assume that you run tests first to adjust your stitch length/density of the buttonhole using the Step 1 setting. When you find the the length/density that you want, using an ink marker/crayon...whatever...being as precise as possible, mark a linear line from the edge of your length selector dial, continuing to the body of your machine. Now, select Buttonhole Setting #3, and increase the stitch length until you see the length/density that you want. Find a clear spot on your length dial and repeat the marking procedure. When you are ready to make a buttonhole, align the markings for Buttonhole Step 1 on your stitch length dial and proceed, complete your tack of step 2, stop, manually raise your needle out of the fabric using the balance (hand) wheel on the right, adjust your stitch length dial accordingly for Step 3, then on to your final tack #4. If it's only your buttonholer that is giving you trouble, take the extra 15 minutes or so, and use the workaround and mark your machine. It doesn't have to be ink, it can be pinstriping tape...whatever, and spend the money you saved on fabrics and notions instead.....good luck my friend.

Problems with Singer 2732

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

How do you adjust the

Tension is adjusted with the tension dial on the right side of your machine. You would adjust the tension to your comfort. Use a piece of material to practice on, and tighten or loosen your tension till your threads look just right. If they are to tight your material will bunch up, if they are to loose you will have thread loops or very loose threads. As you get to know your machine this will come to you as easy as driving a Model T Ford. GOOD LUCK.

If you have the black bobbin case you must make sure you use only a good mercerised thread, there should be enough gap between the edge of the bobbin case and the silver adjuster to allow the thread to pass through, if there is not then you must slacken off the two screws and move it over a fraction.
