Be sure that the machine has been cleaned and oiled. Check to be sure the machine is threaded correctly. Check to make sure the bobbin was wound properly.

My singer 1120 sewing machine

I presume that you have checked that the clutch to wind bobbins is reengaged?? It is easy to forget sometimes. If your machine has a knob inside the flywheel to do this, then just check that it is fully tighted back up to reenage the motor drive.

Otherwise it may just be the drive belt has worn/broke/is slipping internally. I wouldn't dump it just yet, it may well be repairable.

The motor belt is available here http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/motor-belt-singer-007156xxl5.aspx so if parts are on the market then it may well be worth taking it to a repair shop and getting a quote to fix it. Depends on how long you've had the machine and what you paid for it and the cost to repair vs buying a new one.

If you or someone you know is technical, they may want to have a go at opening up the case and seeing what is happening around the drive/flywheel area - just make sure everything is disconnected from the power first.

The thread is tight and

try adjusting the thread tension
check to see if the top thread has come off the thread take up lever--this can cause the machine to jam
change the needle----if the needle is the slightest bit damaged the cause the machine to jam---also the wrong needle for the fabric can cause problems also
try rethreading the machine incase the thread is caught somewhere
make sure the bobbin is in correctly & it's not warped

if you've already done all these things & it still jams up then it could be out of time & would have to be serviced by a repair shop with the correct tools to time it

Need a manual for 1120

First of all, here is the main Singer ONLINE SUPPORT AND DOWNLOAD page for your model:

http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

To view the Support Page just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated. Then type 1120 into the empty search box on the lower right hand side of the page and then click on SEARCH.

To download the Owner's Manual with operating instructions, just click on the FREE DOWNLOAD! button on the right hand side of the Singer support page for your model when you get there. Then when it asks you if you want to open or save the file, click on SAVE. Then choose a place on your computer to save the file like on your DESKTOP so you can find it easily later. Click SAVE and once the file download is complete, then click OPEN and you should then see the contents of the manual.

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents. You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary. Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck.

If you choose to rate this solution using the Thumbs Up scale provided, I thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Joe.

Needle seemsnot to travel far

First make sure that you are using the correct needles for the machine. I have seen machines with serger needles installed (these are sometimes shorter) If you confirm that the needle is correct then the problem may be more serious.

You are trying to attach a long shank foot to a short shank machine. Look for a short shank foot on either Ebay. You may also find it included within a "tin" of accessories at a local thrift shop. If neither of these options work for you check with your local fabric store or sewing machine repair shop for the correct button foot.

It sounds like your machine is set to wind the bobbin right now, so the drive is disengaged. That would explain why the bobbin winder pin is the only part moving. Check your manual for how to reset the machine when you are finished winding the bobbin.

Most machines have a way to disengage the drive for the needle while filling the bobbin. Then once the bobbin is filled, you re-engage the drive. Some machines have a separate, smaller hand-wheel that turns and clicks into place. Some machines automatically reengage the drive once the bobbin pin snaps into place away from the drive belt.

I hope this helps!

It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Try feeding the material slower or if it looks like the stitches are too close together feeding faster. Until you get allot of practice in and are more comfortable with your technique, you can always use a heavier needle!

DO NOT TURN COUNTER CLOCKWISE, IT MESSES UP THE TIMING. I hope that it is going to be saved. You must have something caught under the faceplate. Get a screw driver and take it off, remove the bobbin case and now clean out the whole thing with a brush (tooth and paint brushes work great). Then oil it using your manual as your guide. Then insert a new needle (flat side facing away from you) and rethread. Now when you are rethreading, have your presser foot up, pull top thread, it should move easily, now put the presser foot down, pull thread, it should barely move. This should seat the thread in your tension discs. Or call Brother at 1-877-276-8437 or go to their website www.brother-usa.com, you can download a free manual under customer support or email them, If, this does not work, I can only say, bite the bullet and get it repaired or buy a new one.

I was sewing a binding on a tree skirt and right

I think that you have some lint or thread caught in the bobbin area. To get it unstuck, wiggle your handwheel back a forth and see if there is anything there, do not turn the handwheel away from you fully, you can mess up your timing. . You may have to take a screw driver and remove the thoat plate and clean that area, then lubricate the hook area as per your manual. Try that and I hope that it helps. If, you need a copy of your manual, go to www.singerco.com and download one for free. It is good because you can enlarge the diagrams, in case you have to take your bobbin area out and put it back in. Good luck

Thread frequently breaking while sewing;

Insert a new needle (flat side away from you). Make sure that you are threaded right, with presser foot up, pull top thread, should be smooth, now put the presser foot down, it should barely move. Also, use the same type of thread in the upper and bobbin, do not use old thread that you have laying around. Try your tension at 3 and see how it is. If, you need a copy of your manual, go to www.singerco.com, It is free to download under customer support, it is really neat because you can save a copy on your computer plus enlarge the diagrams for easy viewing. Hope this helped you.
