Singer 301A needle breaks
do you have a book, refer to threading. This machine threads differently than most, threads like a 221 featherweight. Needle goes in backwards, and threads backwards. in wrong and you can have problems, also threading can cause your problem if you have missed tension or a thread guide. great little machine
Whenever I sew on medium weight material, the
Most often it is top threading, if you are sure it is correct then there is probably thread wound around a rubber wheel which meters out the proper amount of thread for each stitch. Face palte and top must be removed for access.
Loopy thread during stitching
if loops appear on underside of fabric, make sure machine is threaded correctly (check instruction manual for threading). when presser foot is resting on feed dogs, needle thread should be quite tight when pulled through needle (needle should bend a little). if thread does not feel tight, check threading again and ensure thread is between tension discs (presser foot should be up for threading and then down to check tension). if threading is good and tension seting is at 5 but still not tight enough check no htread is caught in tension assembly. if tension assembly is clear try tightening needle thread tension to 6,7 or 8 and see if that helps.
if the above is correct check for damage to the needle hole in the needle plate and polish with fine emery tape if necessary.
if you still have trouble best see a technician for possible repair to bobbin case or hook/shuttle mechanism which you may damage trying to fix yourself.
scott.
I have a quantum cxl.
The needle shaft sticks to the curved arm and won't come down because a piece of plastic, about an eighth of an inch thick had broken from age. It prevented the shaft from staying up on the needle arm. Open the cover, try to stitch decorative stitch and see what I mean. Purchase a package of 4-10 by 1/2 nut and bolt pack. Screw the nut all the way onto the bolt. Using needle-nosed plyers, Carefully bend the curved arm slightly, and place bolt into the hole on the top of the needle shaft. Nut will keep it in place. Lowering the needle shaft using wheel, carefully bend arm back in place. Try decorative stitch. It should work. It does for me.

Singer 301A stitch jam
your machine threads from right to left. the needle flat spot faces left. big loopy things means that the upper part of the machine is not threaded properly. as far as the needle hitting the bobbin case, it sounds as if someone removed the hook (part that holds the case) and put it back on 180 degrees off.
My Singer Quantum CXL seems to be jammed

Screen turns on and flowers appear but will not continue
I had that problem last year. The repairman told me to make sure my sewing machine was on a very stable table, or it would move around & knock out the computer. The machine just barely moved, but that was too much. After I changed the table out that the machine sat on, it worked. Hope this helps.
Singer 301A stitch jam
It sounds like your feed pressure and tension are both off. Try sewing with out thread. If the fabric goes all over the place, you need to adjust the feed pressure (the screw on the top of the machine). Tighten it down until your fabric feeds evenly. If the fabric is bogging and not feeding, you need to loosen it.
Your tension sounds like it is off as well. Make sure it is set around 2-3 and check your tension disc, make sure there is no thread in between the disc. If so, remove it. Now, thread the machine and check the thread through the needle. It should pull out quickly and smoothly. Now, put the presser foot in the down position and pull the thread, it should have some resistance. If not, your tension is set too low. Turn it up a little and try sewing. If the thread is still knotting up, you can turn the tension up to about 5, if that does not correct the problem, you will need to adjust the tension dial itself. To do this, press on the numbered part of the dial and it will push in, then turn it to a lower number, release and make sure it has locked back into place. Then adjust again as I previously instructed.
Won't stitch properly

Singer Inspiration 4205, timing keeps going out, help!
ok sounds like you might need a little better machine for the sewing you are doing . there is a timing belt and it sound like it is sliping. did the hand wheel get jammed at anytime and did you free it by turning it away from you? the covers will come off you just have to find all of the screws to loosen them. my suggestion send it back and get a upgrade machine I presonally like the Brother machines.
