My Singer Quantum XL 1000

taadam -
I also have the Singer Quantum XL-1000 and recently wanted to figure out how to free motion quilt with it. I was having the same problem you were - the top thread kept breaking after a few seconds. A google search brought up this webpage, and like you, I didn't find help from the other solutions for our particular machine.
But I just figured it out today, and thought I would share! Turns out, on the Singer Quantum XL-1000, the stitch length MUST be set to something OTHER THAN ZERO. I know this is totally counter-intuitive. All the tutorials I found online about free motion quilting say how important it is to set the stitch length to zero. I'm guessing that maybe it's because the XL-1000 is computerized, and essentially too smart for that - that setting the stitch length to zero signaled to the machine NOT to give any thread, thus the breakage.
But try setting your stitch length to somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5. I've been quilting this afternoon with Sulky thread (I'd been using Coats and Clark before, and found that even with the proper settings, it makes a big difference to have a higher quality thread) and the stitch length set to 3.0, and it's going great! I'm also using a 90/14 needle, because that's what the instruction manual recommended for free motion embroidery.
Hope this helps! Happy sewing!

My Singer Quantum XL 1000 is jammed and does not

Hello,

Try to turn the hand wheel (on the right side of the machine) backwards ( if you are facing the right side of your machine, turn it clockwise) and try to remove the thread. Once its freed up, change the needle.

Hope that helps,
Chris

How do you lessen the pressure on the presser foot

On some machines there is a knob on the left the top or a recessed screw that is used for adjusting the pressure.

You may find you will get better results if you use a walking foot when sewing fleece or any other type of fabric where the layers tend to shift during the sewing process.

How do i realign the

Hi there,

Well first of all you check the pressure and adjust them,
The pressure adjustment sets that amount of pressure that the presser foot will exert on the fabric. Downward pressure on the presser foot, holds the fabric between the feed dog and sewing machine foot. The amount of pressure would need to vary if you were switching between light weight sheer fabric and multiple layers of denim for the machine to feed the fabric.

When to make adjustment to the Amount of Pressure:

If you find that the fabric will slip when the presser foot is down, you need to increase the pressure on the presser foot.

If the fabric is held so tightly that the feed dog is unable to move the fabric, decrease the amount of pressure on the presser foot.

Post comments for more help or information........

Good Luck!!

Thanks

I am having an issue

Hello. This is a rather demanding machine in that if everything is not perfectly aligned the thread will break, in fact even the needle will break. Your problem is most likely due to the misalignment of the embroidery foot. The foot must be on perfectly straight. In your case where the thread breaks after two or three items it appears that the foot starts out aligned and then gradually gets a wee bit out of alignment. When the needle is dead-center of the little metal loop of the embroidery foot, the thread should not break nor should the needle break. Keep an eye on the alignment in the metal loop of the foot and it should be fine. Regards, Joe
