Hi Barb,you need to visit the Singer website and download a manual.Here is the link to the search page:http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manualsIn the search field type "250" and click "Search" then wait for the page to build. You'll see your model there, and there will be a "Free download" box appear after a few seconds. Click this and wait a few seconds again for the file to download - it is 5MB so large.once its displaying as a pdf file on your screen you can click the logo like a clipboard to save the file a location on your PC. If you have a printer you can print it out for future reference; maybe put into a clear page display book.

This has worked for me.

1. Make sure the tension dial is set at E.
2. Remove the bobbin case with thread in it.
3. Tape three quarters to the end of the thread.
4. Hold the bobbin case up. Given your problem, the quarters should be dropping to the ground.
5. Tighten the tension screw until the quarters are just a tiny bit away from dropping. You don't want it tighter than that because it will be too tight.
6. Put the bobbin in and test embroider.

This fix came from Jim at the Futura Yahoo group. It is a group well worth joining.

You can find manuals on the Singer website for most models, link is http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals, in the search field type in your model number and click "search" . Wait a bit for the screen to load and you'll see a box with "Free download" click this and again wait for the file to load as its quite big. Once loaded to your screen you can save the PDF file to your PC and print it for future reference. Its the same file for both these models.

Go to: http://www.futura-support.com/ Click on Service update in the left hand menu, wait for the new menu to open and click on CE 100. Read carefully all the information. Download the detailed instructions and study it and then download the patch for Vista. Sound difficult but it is not.

It may be that the silver square object in front of it is to tight. I had this happen and I loosened that up with small screwdriver and put bobbin case back in and it helped. Had to play with it for a while. Or It may be that the bobbin case has chip out and need to replace that.

Under submenu "Help" you can find different manuals and tutorials that describe all features. "Outline Edit" is intended for modifying the embroidery objects that were created by the native software (for example text blocks or AutoPunch Wizard result). With "Stitch Edit" you can modify specific stitches of any designs.

Software update should fix that problem. In the main menu Help->Live Update.

Incorrect tension on upper thread or mis-threading.

it is possible the machine is out of time & needs to be serviced by a repair shop

I would look on the thread path and make sure the thread is under the metal just past the first hook

Sorry what do you mean by "driver"

If you are only sewing garments and in particular, knits why do you need your machine to be compatible with your PC? It should not be necessary unless you wanted to stitch out digitised machine embroidery patterns, something I've never done in 30 years of dressmaking.

To sew knits you need ball point needles, in an appropriate size for the fabric weight. Good guide to sewing machine needles is here - http://sewing.about.com/od/sewingmachineindex/ig/Sewing-Machine-Needles/

On knits you need either a very small zig zag stitch or your machine may have a stretch stitch where the fabric is moved forwards and backwards a little to put some stretch into the seam. Also use polyester thread. You need the ballpoint needle as it pushes between the fabric fibres rather than piercing them, imporant with knits to prevent the seam from popping/breaking when under stress.

For hems you can use a twin needle on the top of the fabric, this gives a nice finish to the seam and also some elasticity as the underneath bobbin thread forms into a zig zag to connect with the twin needle on top.

I bought their "Sewing for Toddlers" and "Sewing for Children" books and traced off patterns for PJ's, track pants and sweat tops and made loads of clothes for my boys from this one book, it is a great resource for knit sewing. They have other books too for adults.

Anything you need in terms of selecting stitches on your sewing machine should be in the instruction booklet, but how you use those stitches and assembly garments is best learnt from taking sewing classes or a good sewing book.

Other useful websites for sewers are www.sewing.about.com, www.patternreview.com www.burdastyle.com and www.sewingpatterns.com - there is also a yahoo user group called "FuturaEmbroidery" of fellow Singer Futura sewing machine owners that you may wish to join, often can pick up lots of helpful info and advise from fellow owners.

The Futura software and the machine drivers exist for Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME, or XP. If you have Win7 32-bit, you may be able to run in the compatibility mode. Load the CD into the optical drive, then right click on the .exe file on the CD. Then choose Properties. Select the Compatibility tab and check Run this program in the compatibility mode. Click Apply and OK. Then right click again and choose Run as Administrator. This isn't guaranteed to work since the changes in the OS are significant.

To check if you have Win7 32-bit or the 64-bit version, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. The title will say Windows 7 (Version) for a 32-bit OS. It will read Windows 7 (Version) x64 for the 64-bit version of the OS.

If you have the 64-bit OS or the compatibility mode doesn't work, you need a computer running an older version of Windows. This can be a second computer, a dual-boot computer (where you select your OS at startup) or a virtual computer (that runs inside the real computer). If you have Win7 Pro or Ultimate or upgrade to one of those versions, you can create a virtual XP computer for free. Download and install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft. Install them in order. Then install the XP software from the above site in the virtual computer and it will work. (Other virtual computer programs are Parallels and VMWare.) All of the other options will require a licensed version of the older Windows OS.

(The last person I dealt with with the issue of an embroidery machine not talking to Windows 7 kept their old Windows XP computer just to work with the sewing machine. Fortunately the old computer was still working enough to use for the purpose.)

Unfortunately, the only place I found after searching and searching months ago was to go back to Singer itself and pay for a new CD. The cost was $100 as of January, 2011. It doesn't do any good to copy someone's CD or for someone to get it to the internet for you to download, because when you go to install the software the program asks for you to put the CD in the drive, and the program knows to look for an original CD.
