I'm not sure if this is the manual you need, but there's a free one for a 1888 model available through the Singer website, strange as it may seem. (In fact you can find free manuals for many White brand sewing machines via the Singer website.) Look under Singer's "Support and Resources" then select "Instruction manuals" , or follow this link: http://www.singerco.com/support/instruction-manuals On the Instructions Manual page you'll see it says "Find Your Manual - Step 1, Step 2 etc etc" and under that there's a search box that says "Model Number" Into this search box just type "w" (don't type "white", because that doesn't work) You'll be taken to a near incomprehensible results page but scroll down and you'll see there's one listed as "W1788, W1888" which I think is the same as your machine Good luck, and I hope you find what you need :) Kind regards Kura http://www.singerco.com/support/instruction-manuals Instruction Manuals

Is the machine plugged in? Is the bobbin winder on? Is there a new needle in the machine, right way around and fully up in the needle clamp? Will the needle thread pick up the bobbin thread? Will the feed dogs advance paper or fabric? Is it set for a particular stitch? Is the machine correctly threaded? Is the machine correctly lubricated?

I just bought a Vintage Hilton Dressmaker Model 366 sewing machine and I need to know what settings to put it on for tension etc.. for straight stiches..please help!

I suggest taking the sewing machine to a repair shop to have it checked to see if there is a damaged part causing the handwheel not to turn.

My first thought is that the feed dogs(That is the little jagged looking plate under the pressure foot.)
are not all the way up, or you've got the stitch length set to 0 or very short, or you don't have the presser foot down.

In order to raise the feed dogs, follow these steps: First, lift the presser foot; next, push the feed dog lever to the raised position; finally, turn the handwheel towards you until you hear the feed dogs snap into place

If they are up then the next thing I would suspect is that the bobbin is not in correctly. If it is a normal round bobbin that fits in a bobbin case, hold the bobbin in front of you so that the thread end is on top and the thread is going away from you, and slide it into the bobbin case. Feed the thread through the right openings in the bobbin case. When you pull the thread end the bobbin should turn clockwise.

If you have issues with actually getting the thread through the needle, then use a needle threading device, you can find these at the local habadashery shop.
