I need to change my
The 29897 has only one mailbox, so you can't use it to separate messages.
To record an outgoing message, hold down the GREETING button. Record your message at the tone. Release the GREETING button when done.

How to delete messages after
To delete a single message, press and release DELETE while playing the message. To delete all messages, while the unit is in ready-to-answer mode press and hold DELETE until "Messages erased" displays.

Message center erased yet is
Hello.
From the Panasonic User Guide:
You can erase all the old messages only, leaving the new messages and Caller ID information.
While the unit is in ready-to-answer mode, press and hold DELETE until the unit announces, "Messages erased."
• New messages can not be erased in this way. To erase new messages, play them then press DELETE during play back.

How do you adjust the
IN THE SIDE OF THE PHONE THERE WILL BE ONE BUTTON WHICH CONTROLS THE RING VOLUME. ADJUST IT SO THAT THE RING TIME INREASES... THANK YOU HAPPY NEW YEAR
Own a GE 29870GE1 telephone with digital answering
Hello,
Try unplugging the phone from the wall power outlet plug it back after like 3 minutes. Power on and see if you get a dial tone, if not, try reset the unit, once the unit is reset, the problem should be fix. Follow this steps to reset the unit,
Turn
off the phone, remove the AC adapter, press and hold the page/call
button that is on the phone and plug back your Ac adapter, this will fix
the problem.

I don't believe it's a malfunction. See if your current phone company has a voice mail active for your phone. If that's the case then odds are your voice mail is picking up before your answering machine.

If so you equipment could be rendered useless.... Lightening travels through Telephone Lines on occaision... seeking ground through your power supply... We have had complete telephone systems taken out by lightening.
