Noisy Washer Repair

its always best to buy the full kit, damage to one is damage to the other. you dont want to just change one thing when there is other parts connected to its running or you just end up buy the same parts again plus the part that has gone.

Ge profile washing machine stops during fill - both during initial fill and rinse. If I help fill it it works just fine (both cycles). We have already replaced the mother board and that didn't help.

under warranty? Persue. Did you replace the motherboard? are you sure it is the right one? Sounds like you need service tech.

GE Washer spin cycle not working

If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

  • The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

  • The motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.

  • A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

  • The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

  • The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

  • The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.

GE Profile Model WMSR3110W2WW washer

Your bearings may be going.. does it make a racket as it spins too.. bearings come as sealed units, when they break down oil leaks, hence the stains.

It will only get worse so have it sorted to save your washing.

My spin cycle doesn't remove

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

It depends on whether you think it is spinning at the right (fast) speed or not. Often if the wash and rinse cycles go OK but the spin does not it is the belt which is slipping.
Now- I do not know your particular machine, whether it is a front or top loader. I normally try and help with front loader problems!
Just in case it IS, what follows is my 'standard' document for the replacement of belts, copied and pasted 'cos it's quicker ;-0)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Belts are not expensive- sorry I do not know how much yours would cost- and are easy to be changed by a competent person:-
REMOVE POWER FROM THE MACHINE AND REMOVE THE BACK.
The motor support bolts should be loosened and the old belt removed. Often putting the new belt on is a bit of a struggle, even with the motor 'loose', because it is new and smaller!
Once on it should be tensioned by pulling the motor against the belt firmly- but not over tight- and the motor support bolts tightened.
ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD ANY FORM OF LEVERAGE BE USED TO TENSION THE BELT. THAT COULD LEAD TO DAMAGE TO THE BELT, MOTOR AND BEARINGS- EXPENSIVE!
Hope this is your problem solved.
Good luck,
John C

My GE Profile WPSR3120WWW will start to spin and

Hi Jill. There are two components that could be going bad resulting in the symptoms you describe. One is called the rotor and the other the stator. These are pricey repairs so before you go down that path consider the age of your machine. If it is over 3 years old and not under warranty your best choice would be to take the money you would spend on a repair and use it toward a replacement. The new machines are much more efficient, quieter, better all around and of course under warranty. Joe
