Flash won't retract

There is nothing you can do to fix this, it should not affect daytime photo taking.

Can I clean the telescoping lens, since it won't come out without sluggish movement. Also won't focus.

Only if you are happy to strip the whole camera down and have a source for the replacement parts that may break or need replacing

Doesn't turn on right away. stays black takes 40 seconds or more to take a picture then takes several more seconds to take thenext picture

Hi Pam, This can be normal behaviour for some cameras, especially older ones. I don't think that you have anything to worry about unless this behaviour has only recently started. Have you raised this with Nikon customer support? Nikon Service and Support Nikon Customer Service Nikon Support

My camera turns on and shows the menu icons on a black screen. I can take a picture, and the flash works, but nothing is captured. After I take the black picture it works just fine, though.

Please contact your nearest Nikon Dealer the connectors of the Screen at the back are loose / happens sometimes, as far as we had the Problems (owners of Photo chain stores) Nikon always regarded is as a Guarantee Replacement.

My lens won't open all the way, but no error is listed.

its normally only the Lens Protection Cover - mostly a bit of dust in between or slightly bend (cam wont recognize that) try to blow out or take a toothpick and slightly try to move the lens covers . sometimes enough to fix it !

Why my camera tell me "impossible connection" when I try to put my photos on my Mac? And what is the software which is installed when I read the CD?

The Nikon download software is called Nikon Transfer 2. I would remove the SD card from your camera and slide it into the SD slot on your Mac. If you have an iMac, the slot is located just below the CDROM slot on the right side. Do not do this by feel. Look as you insert the card because if you insert it in the CDROM slot, you may not be able to extract it. If you have a MacBook or MacBook Pro, check the manual for the location. When the computer recognizes your SD card, it will either open Nikon Transfer 2 or a folder will appear on your desk top. If Nikon Transfer does not open, just copy your pictures from the SD card folder to a folder on your Mac.

Memory full

If you are using the memory that came in your camera, and you do not have an accessory SD memory card installed, your camera's built in memory will fill up quickly because it has a very small capacity. If you have an SD memory card, it may be a small card with limited capacity. SC and SDSC memory cards are available with 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 Gb capacity. Of course, the higher the capacity and the faster the card, the more you will pay. For most amateur applications 16 or 32 Gb should be sufficient. Optionally you could set your camera to take lower resolution pictures. That will increase the number of pictures your memory will accommodate, but there is a price; picture quality.

After every picture i have to turn the camera off to take another

I don't understand. As soon as you turn the camera to off, you can't shoot again. You first have to switch it on. If you have a problem with a digital camera, the best you can do is switch it off, remove the battery and wait a few moments. Then reinsert the battery and start over. This acts like cold reboot of a computer. But it could be your battery is on the verge of being empty. So first try charging the battery before reinserting it. If the camera keeps playing the same game, please contact the closest Nikon approved service centre.

Says my memory card cannot be read

I only can ask some questions, to check everything is correct with your memory card and camera. Is it a brand new card? no pictures on it, so in the setup menu first do a format. Is this not a new card, but the first time in the camera? Perhaps you first should save all the pictures (and files if the are on the card) to a computer and do a format. Did the card work in the camera before and after you copied the photos to the computer it gave this error. Could it be you did touch the lock switch on the memory card? Is it still in the up position, like the 64 GB card on the left. (picture below) Did the card work in the camera before and suddenly it stopped working? now we have a problem. If you think you still should have pictures on the card, you should remove the card and try to recover the pictures with recover software. The error can happen, when you remove the battery, while the camera is accessing the memory card. (blinking green light on the back of the camera). If you are sure there are no pictures on the card, you can try to format the card. If the camera does not allow you to do so, remove the card and try to format the card with a computer. If the computer not sees the whole memory, and only wants to format a part, it could be there is a hidden partition and Windows 7 or 8 can't free the whole card. Then try an older computer, or another camera. 53185441-1fc7-465e-b475-400f4546e9c6.jpg

Flash won't retract

Page 27 of the user manual says: Lower the flash by gently pushing it down. When not taking pictures, lower the flash. The manual is online with Nikon USA. but here is the picture of that page. See bottom of the page. 3078464f-f718-4b24-a6ab-4d5ea07dc048.png
