HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Notebook - Page 3 Questions & Answers
External monitor only works if I start windows vista in safe mode
First after you boot it up normally (not Safe Mode) can you move the mouse far to the left or to the right do you see the mouse. If you do see the mouse pointer you are running dual monitor mode and the laptop screen is set as the primary monitor. You have to run it in Save Mode and set the external monitor as the primary monitor. Hit the Start button then select Help+Support and in the search box enter "dual monitors". Read how to set up the primary monitor. Second maybe you need to activate the external monitor. When laptops boot normally (not Safe Mode again) with a external monitor connected you have to hit the Fn (function) key (probably blue near Alt key) and some other number key (it probably has a blue monitor symbol on it) I'm not sure which one. This key sequence is a toggle sequence. In other words when you boot a laptop it goes directly to the laptop screen then the first time you do a Fn + number key combination it will turn on the external monitor and turn off the laptop screen the next time you push Fn+number key it will turn on both monitors (external and laptop screen) the third time it will turn on only the laptop screen and so forth.
How do you change the internal battery
Hi,THE BATTERY MUST BE REMOVEDThis can be a little tricky and requires you to remove the outer casing to expose the motherboard.Once exposed you will be able to see the small circular battery with a small clip holding it in place. You can now remove it and replace it.Hope this helps
Plugged in not charging, 1245dx will not run on only ac power
That is just it HP is proprietary, meaning you may have to purchase their battery and their stuff in order to resolve this no third parts things outside of HP will work. Has to be exact for your model I never loved HP myself. I have had a few of them and they are piled high in my repair department. So last resort get their batteries make sure it is from them period. BIOS has to also read this battery in order for it to function when charging. That is all I have to offer on that matter. John
The fan in hp pavilion dv7-1245dx does not work
When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail. A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.
HP dv7-4165dx keeps shutting down
When does it shut down? Does it boot up and allow you to do anything? If it allows you to do some things then maybe it is running hot and shuts down or a virus is shutting it down. Give us more details on when it shuts down and what was going on when it shut down.
Hp dv7 1245 dx all of a sudden blurry webcam
Try downloading and install the webcam drivers again. If it is still blurry, try some of your settings in the camera software. You can always download Manycam and install it. Go towww.google.com and in the search box type: "download.cnet.com"(without the quotes). Click on the link to go to the site. When thesite opens look down on the left and you will see a gray area that says FindSoftware. Type "Manycam" (without the quotes) in the whitesearch area then hit the search mirror. When it brings back your resultslook for the one that says ManyCam Virtual Webcam. Down load it andinstall it. Make sure you remove the check box on any junky programs itwould like to install. You only want to install ManyCam, no additionswhatsoever during the install. ManyCam is totally FREE and easy to use,and you will always know where your webcam software is.
Hp dv7 1245dx fan is making a loud noise. how do
If it's anything like my dv7-1130us, it's quite a job.
I picked up a new fan for around $20 on ebay. That's the easy part.
The fan is pretty much the first thing they put in when they build the laptop. You have to take pretty much every part out, including the motherboard before you can get to it.
I couldn't find the service manual for the 1245dx, but I would assume it's about the same as the 1130us. There is a service manual for that on HP's website and it will tell you step by step.
It took me about 1 1/2 hours from start to finish.
Dv7 subwofer is missing so speakers and headphones dont work. Do i need a new subwofer?
Generally speaking, sub-woofers are not built into notebook computers, as most sub-woofers would not fit. However, there are generally speakers, and there tend to be problems with the audio drivers in most cases if there is no sound for both speakers and headphones.Within the notebook, there should only be two speakers. If they're missing, did you buy this used or refurbished? If someone just yanked out the two speakers and carelessly cut or handled the wiring improperly, then this could interrupt the headphone bypass cut-off.I know you mentioned you'd already verified everything appeared to be working properly, and in some cases updating drivers or uninstalling and re-installing them has a positive result. For the obvious, which I've also forgotten to check sometimes, is whether the output is muted within the volume control and mixer. In case you hadn't already checked out these, here are a few links you may find useful:

HP Pavilion DV7-1245 runs on battery, but not with the power cord
If there is a light on the charger? check to see if is illuminated when plugged in the mains.Could be a faulty power supply lead, check for broken lead near the plug that plugs in to the laptop. The socket it'self could be faulty, if it is then the laptop will need to be stripped down to repair it. Usually it's only a matter of resoldering a joint but it's not cheap because of what's involved.
Dv-7 is not getting charged . even the white
If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.Thiscan be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to getat this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get aquote first.

It is normal for the adapter to run warm, but it shouldn't feel so hot you can't touch it. Since you have tried a couple of replacement batteries and still have the same trouble, it's safe to assume that either your adapter is bad or that there's something wrong on the computer system board. New adapters are easy to find and not very expensive (
here's one seller on eBay), so that would be the next thing to try.
If the motherboard is the trouble (something wrong with the charging circuit), that's replaceable as well but it's not a cheap or simple repair. A replacement board may cost $100 to $200 for a used and tested part, and over $300 for a new one from an HP-authorized part seller, and installing the replacement can be very tedious. It might be more economical to replace the computer if the motherboard is bad. Try a new charger first.
