forget Sony this is not SONY at all its HP./MS and Epson. only. lost the epson install disk/? what OS> windows/ what ? XP the CQ60 is very very old PC notebook. and then getting the software from EPSON. matching your OS and the manual to install it is it USB connected, you never said. direct or via external usb hub,(bad) there are many causes. 1: OS corrupted, XP loves to do that 2: XP and vista are now dead, so the driver updates are dead. 2b: that means you must load all the old software by hand. 3: step 2 in the users guide tell you insert CD and install the software. do that, ? re-install all that? i went to epson.com my guess is they do NOT support legacy products they sold at all. not even for XP. print Q (queue) what error,? only this matters now and printer status lamps. does the self test pages work? does the printer status leds show errors, if yes printer its self is bad. ink problems, etc. jams, yes xp has bugs in the queue manager, (tricky to fix, can do) $20 is cheap good rate for help... such a deal ! is this a CCFL LDC if yes the inverter is bad. (a card tiny, and thin) its old LT. the books are gone now. the service book tells you how to replace the CCFL inverter find a used good one is problematc. why not buy a newer LT or just run the external screen and be happy I guess you have not read the user guide yet? about the VGA hot key. mine has.: 1: external only 2: internal only 3 both 4: auto. The keyboard maybe faulty.Connect an external keyboard to youe laptop and if all the key work on this keyboard then most like the laptop keyboard is faulty.If this external keyboard also malfunctions then the keyboard controller chip on the laptop motherboard is faulty and it would not be worth repairing as this is an old model laptop.

Hook an external mouse to the laptop, if yes! do a system restore bringing the computer back to an earlier time before this happened, if the external mouse gives the same problem, do a full system recovery of the operational system if possible for a complete fresh install.

If you see power lights but nothing appears on the screen, it could be a "POST" (Power-on Self Test) problem or simply LCD problem.

Here are some steps that you can try. One of these may work on your case.

1. Remove the battery and the ac adapter then press the power button for at least 20 seconds to drain electric charges left on the system. (You may need to repeat this step to get it work.)

2. If above step doesn't work, try to plug in an external monitor and see if you get display from the external monitor.

3. If you get display from the external monitor, I'm sure your having problem with the LCD components. In this case, check and replace faulty LCD backlight, LCD cable or LCD inverter. The LCD inverter is often a culprit.

4. Try to reinsert the memory module/s (RAM) of the unit, try using one RAM at a time to see if it works. A faulty RAM will cause the laptop not to POST.

5. If reinserting the RAM doesn't help, most likely your motherboard needs to be replaced.

I am unable to find a photo of your laptop's keyboard, so I cannot be certain which function key will enable your wireless adapter.

However, most laptops are very similar, so this solution should work for your problem.

1) Locate the secondary function key (probably labeled "FN") on your keyboard.
2) Locate the key which controls your wireless adapter as a secondary function. It will have the following image on the key: http://cdnsupport.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2007/Phantom/WirelessIcon.gif
3) While holding the FN key, press the wireless key
4) Your wireless adapter is now enabled. If you are still having wireless issues, the problem was not that the hardware wireless adapter was disabled.

Check if the router has any restrictions, if not, try uninstalling any wireless program on the compaq and using the windows connection.
Be sure you are selecting the right encryption.

Are you able to feel the heat coming up from the system after its turned on?

If yes, there may be problem with the display.
If not, the might be the problem or the underlying hardware would have been faulted.

Please get assistance from the Compaq team on this.

check in safemode with networking. if it works, then scan computer for any virus threats. try a sytem restore.

I'm sure that if you leave it on and don't press the button off that it will stay on the next time you boot up.I've had several different laptops and desktops and they all work the same.

Sounds like it is stuck in hibernate mode. Hold the power button down for 5 seconds and try to start it again. If it doesn't start remove the battery, unplug the laptop, hold the power button down for 60 seconds. Now plug in the power supply but leave the battery out. Turn it on. It should start now and you can re-insert the battery.

Reinstall Windows, the one you have now is corrupted: get your recovery disk, put it in press Esc and select the CD as boot device. Now follow the instructions on the screen

check to see if the hp wireless manager hasnt changed you to a b wifi connection (encountered this problem last year),get the latest drivers for it and make sure on the modem settings range isnt turned down and make sure your channel is set to 11 on the frequency settings

Well you need to remove rthe keyboard and make sure it's dry ar the connector end wipe off all screwdriver residue and re-install the keyboard. If it still does not work correctly then you will have to replace the keyboard.
