How do I play my on dvd's
Hi, the only way to find out is to put a dvd in if you have the software on the unit it should automatically start up for you. It won't do your pc any harm if you don't have the software just eject the dvd out. You can download free VLC media player from the internet and this package will play your dvd .
My laptop is automatic shutdon imidiatly
Have you check your fans if its working?
1. Check the fans if not working you must replace it or put some drop of machine oil.
2. Remove any dust blocking the airways from fans to heat sink.
3. Lastly check your software install there's might drivers conflict or infected by virus. This software issue might cause for the system to automatically shutdown
Do Lenovo laptops kill non-Lenovo hard drives?
Yes, I had the same ...
To put things right I downloaded Linux Ubuntu (
http://www.ubuntu.com/download), burnt it to dvd and used the non-working hard drive as the only master drive, and installed Ubuntu as the operating system. Then I erased Ubuntu by installing Windows XP.
As you already have Windows working on your computer, why not create a 'virtualbox' and install the tech preview inside your current operating system? Search for for Oracle virtual box for Windows hosts (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html), download it and also download the guest box additions.
That just means if you have say, Windows 7 as your operating system, you create a virtualbox and install another operating system inside that virtualbox. You can run both operating systems at the same time.
If you don't fancy the idea of a virtualbox, you can use the inbuilt Windows disk partitioner to create another drive on your hard drive and install the tech preview there. Your computer will be 'dual boot' ... at start up you choose which operating system to use.
You can do the same using Linux - but be aware that Linux must go on as the SECOND operating system.
Your first port of call is to format those hard drives and put things right.

If you don not see last month, you can select see more restore points. Then select the date you want .( should be like a critical update point)
I can't remember the password to unlock my Lenova
hi dbcaloha, one way of bypassing the password is to power drain the pc.
Turn off the pc, unplug cables, remove the battery , press and hold the power button for 5 seconds, replug cables and reinsert battery.
Turn on the pc and check if it bypass the password, otherwise your system needs to perform factory reset...
Hope this helps...
Computer loads very slow especailly
The more programs and software you put onto a computer, the slower it can become. However, the first thing to do is defragment your hard drive. Start your computer, open 'My computer' and right click on the C drive icon. From the tabs choose TOOLS and then defragment .. The time taken to defragment depends on the size of your hard drive. Then go to the control panel and look for Install/Uninstall programs. If there's anything you can live without, uninstall it.Restart your computer. If things are still slow (and you are confident you have plenty of RAM - memory) installed, suspect a failing hard drive.
My lenova laptop BMR is compressed, what's the solution for it?
The Windows operating system allows you to compress the files on your drive to conserve disk space. In some situations, this compression process will compress files required for the operating system to boot. Files that are compressed must be decompressed prior to execution. Since the operating system has not loaded, boot files cannot yet be decompressed. In this case, the operating system will fail to load and a "BootMgr is compressed" message will appear. An easy way around this problem is to boot from the Windows DVD, and use the provided interface to access your drive properties and decompress it. Turn on the computer, and insert your Windows DVD. Press a random key on your keyboard once you see the "Press any key..." message. This interrupts booting from the hard drive and forces a boot from the Windows DVD. Click the "Next" button at the bottom of the Windows 7 dialog, and then click the "Repair your Computer" link Below.

This opens a file browser on your screen. Click the "Computer" icon, which is located on the left hand side of the screen. This displays an icon for your disk drive. Right-click your hard drive, and click "Properties. " This opens a Local Disk Properties dialog. Click to deselect the "Compress this drive..." option at the bottom, and then click the "Apply" button. Select the "X" icon to close the file browser window. This takes you back to the Install Windows dialog. Press the "X" icon at the corner of the Install Windows dialog. This opens a cancellation dialog. Select the "Yes" button on this dialog to restart your computer. Hope this helps b>

How to restor factory o.s. on my lenovo 3000y500
You will have to have the factory OS restore disc or a recovery partition from the factory on your hard drive. If you have a recovery partition then you should be able to find it when the computer POSTs at boot - it may give you several options and one them being Recovery. Don't mess with your Setup unless you know what you're doing. Another possible way is by tapping F8 while your computer is booting up. It will go to a black screen with white text. You'll see several options: Safe Mode, LastKnownGoodConfiguration, and so on. Look for a line that suggests Recovery or possibly Utilities. If you can't find it by either of those ways, then you can usually contact the maker and ask for a Recovery Disc. They will want your model info. This usually costs under $50. If yo have a disc then just put it in, reboot the computer, press the indicated button for Boot Menu, Choose CD\DVD, and then press Enter. Follow the prompts from there to reinstall your OS.
