I have a JBP68 self cleaning Electric GE range.

Hello,

This ussally happens because the switch behind the control panel has failed. the switch is called an infinite switch, when they fail the contacts touch allowing power through to energize the burner.

You will need to replace the switch to fix the issue, remove the knob and two screws behind the knob, the switch will pull out through the back. Replace each wire one by one so you don't mix them up.

Hello,

What this indicate or what it means is that there has been a loose of wire connection from the element or weakness from the element

What you will have to do first of all is to unscrew the oven from the stroll with a screwdriver (technician tools ) the trace the wire down to the element (heater or heat provider) it is silver in colour at the lift or right Conner side of the oven to see if there is any form of loose of wire from the connection ,If any then fix it up to the element , but if non then it meant that the element is bad which will need a replacement .

You can get the element from the below site

/www.maxoncorp.com directcaterparts.co.uk premierrange.com appliancedirectparts.com

All these site offer good service and price you can go shopping
Please note if you which to get the element your self make sure it same size from the weak or old one to avoid incompatible with the the panel .

Thank you and thanks for using fixya.

Hi. Stupid question for you, but I just can't

Hi, check this web page, which is a PDF file of GE oven manuals. It appears that you have to close a latch on the door to start the self cleaning.

Hope this helps!

Burner on GE flatop not working

We had the same problem with ours. This is likely caused by one of two things: The element could be bad, or the element controller could be bad. I hope this helps...

1. Get a screwdriver and multimeter.

2. Slide out the stove and unplug it.

3. Open the oven door and look along the front edge up under the cooking deck. You will see several screws. Remove them.

4. Pry up the top cooking deck, the deck is hinged on the back side of the stove.

5. Lift up the front end of deck and get something to prop it up with.

6. The heating elements are are mounted to sheet metal strips, which are attached to the bottom of the cooking deck with screws.

7. Plug the stove back in and set the bad element to high heat.
NOTE: THE EXPOSED WIRING UNDER THE DECK COULD BE ENERGIZED TO 220V, ENOUGH TO KILL IF TOUCHED! USE EXTREME CAUTION. NO CHILDREN, PETS OR CURIOUS ONLOOKERS NEED TO BE AROUND WHILE DOING THIS. ALSO, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE DOING THIS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

8. Take the multimeter probes and check the voltage going to the element. If the voltage is 220V, then the element is bad. If no voltage or very low voltage, then the controller is bad.

9. Unplug the stove.

10. If the controller is bad, then remove back cover from control panel. Remove controller and replace it.

11. If burner is bad, unplug burner and remove it...you will need to remove sheet metal strip that the burners are mounted on from deck before removing burner from the strip. NOTE: The burners are delicate, be careful.

11.a Mark the metal mounting strip where the burner tabs attach to it with a marker before removing burner because there are several locations on the strip where different burner sizes could be mounted.

12. The replacement burner is expensive. After careful inspection, I found the burner to be bad on ours, and the cause was a broken weld between the burner element foil where it is tack welded to the wire tab at the side of the burner. Looking at the quality of the welds, I would not be surprised if this is a common problem. One could take a piece of steel, say a paper clip or similar, and use a pair of needle nose pliers and fashion a small clip using the needle nose pliers to compress the break in the element foil back together. Otherwise, replace the element. I opted to repair the element and save the money.

13. Reinstall the element and plug the element in. Note, the element can be installed in several locations on the sheet metal mounting strip. Make sure to install back in the original locations that you marked with a marker. Carefully reinstall the mounting strip to the deck. Screw deck back down.

14. Plug stove back in.

15. Cook

I would think that a reputable repair service would stand behind their work. I would call them to ask what their policy is for a situation such as yours. Be specific and ask what you may or may not be responsible to pay if they come back. Good Luck.

The lower burner burnt in half after arcing....

Yes, elements are common and VERY easy to repair. Just be sure to un-plug the oven so you don't have to worry about shock or electrocution.

You will need the replacement part (probably less then $50) a screwdriver and or a 1/2 socket wrench.

You can order the parts locally or use a site like this (repairclinic.com) to identify and order the parts you need.

F2 code on the display

F2 indicates that the oven is too hot and the problem may be the oven sensor.

GE Profile Range Oven. The bake button isn't working but all the other keys work on the keypad. I've replaced the control panel twice an still the same issue. What else could it be?

Question edited for clarity. The bake element failed? Test for continuity. If it has a fan, test that too. If it is electronic, check the thermistor temperature sensor. For suspected control panels or mainboards, I always suggest dealer service so you get the correct diagnosis and warranty on the parts and the job. They are also expensive. ..
