it is hard to be sure what the issue is but are you sure it is not the cable or hdmi connection are you using an air antenna or actual cable or satellite signal this issue sounds like a non cable service issue meaning you have an air antenna hooked up is this true?

Check the speaker/s first. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. If same lines/ distortion appears in every input of tv then it is lcd panel (screen) problem as question shows it is Sony KDL-32ML130 lcd tv.
Can you please post picture of tv screen to show distortion/ lines to diagnose it correctly?

LCD Panel (screen) is defective and need to be replaced to solve this problem.

According to the symptom problem is not so critical, the software needs upgrade. Today i am doing same with another model with same symptom, although updating of software is not big deal for us but i will suggest you to please contact any sony service center or expert nearby, because we do this in routine but lot of things involve like, for software update you need original USB (1GB,2GB but not higher) of Sony, and do some changes after updating in data etc, Which will make it difficult for you, So i will suggest you get it to the nearest service center and they will get nominal charges of it.

try to check the all the connection of your tv, specially the aerial connection.

You have a weak electronic component called a capacitor. You have to let a tech replace it for you. This will cause your LCD to suddenly loose brightness

try using different hdmi inputs if you ave any

Question post shows its Sony KDL-32ML130 lcd tv.
Let me know what part of screen has darker image or its all over darker picture.

How dark is the picture? Is it always like this no matter what settings? There are a couple possibilities. It is very possible its a back lighting issue. How long have you owned the tv? How long have you had this problem? Once I have more information I can assist you further.

Assuming the tv is connected properly, no overloads, and well taken care of:

this is a video power management problem with in the tv, theres and ac/dc arching, it roots from the power supply module of the time-control board. The interface board plays a roll in this problem also as it controls convergence and down-stream video. have a technician take a look at it or if its under warranty take it back.

First,If there are double images or "ghost" images on the TV's picture, check the cable connections and make sure they are secure.Because the loose cable connection would be a chance for the ghost picture

But if the cable is perfect and if you still get ghost picture then here is the solution:

The LCD Panel is defective. The problem is the T-con board that is used to decode the signal from the main board to the LCD Panel. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole LCD Panel or T-con board if possible. The T-con will cost about 1/10 of the price as the LCD panel but except for a few new models, the T-con is not available. The LCD Panel is very expensive (usually from $600-700 for a 32" Sony).

The reason is that Sony makes the T-cons for each individual TV with different specs to match that of the LCD panel because of the low threshold for error between the LCD Panel and the T-con.

Its best to avil warranty and change the panel...
