GE Spectra XL44

The oven is not working. It is giving an error of F7 d7. There is no heat from the oven and there is no visible pilot light lit, as far as I can see. I am unfamiliar with this model and I need to know if this unit has a pilot light like most gas ranges, and what the error means. I am hoping it means I have to light the pilot light, and if so, how do I do that. The range works fine.

Sister, there is no pilot light on this model. Sounds like you have a bad ignitor, however the F7 code shows as a bad touch pad membrane. d7 must represent how many times this fault occured, although Im not finding anything that shows a d7 code. Try resetting the board by killing power to the range for about a minute. After turning the power back on press the COOKING TIME, DELAY START AND NUMBER 8 PADS ALL TOGETHER. The words test should be displayed. Now you are going to energize the bake circuit; press the bake and start, you should hear a click, this is the bake relay on the board. By holding the start button in you are energizing the ignitor (glow bar) in the oven. If you do not hear the click, suspect the control board. If you do hear the click and the ignitor is not glowing, you have a bad ignitor. Have someone with you to verify the ignitor is glowing when you are holding the start button in. To exit the test, just push CLEAR/OFF key pad. Catriver...post back

GE Profile XL44 Spectra gas oven

Yesterday I put the oven through the self-clean cycle and it seemed to run fine. I pressed self-clean, the display showed 4.00 hours, I hit start and off it went. The display then showed "oven clean/locked door", and the timer ran down from 4.00 hours. When the cycle ended 4 hours later, I had a clean oven, however, the locked door display would not go off. My husband managed to get the door open, but now the oven will not work - bake or broil. When I try to select the bake or broil function, it will not allow me to set the temperature. The range top burners all work. The door opens and closes and appears to latch properly. I set it to run the self-clean cycle again, and the display showed all of the appropriate messages, however the oven door did not lock. I stopped the cycle after about 10 minutes. Probably important: about 1 year ago I had food placed too close to the broiler and the oven caught fire. It was quickly extinguished, but ever since I turn on the oven to bake or broil, the top of the range gets hot - hotter than it used to. It is almost too warm to the touch, as if I burned through the insuluation. I have not put the oven through the self-clean cycle since the oven fire - until yesterday. I have been baking and broiling without incident until yesterday.

can anyone provide instructions to change an oven igniter

Starfish, remove the oven racks, in back there will be two chrome screws, remove them. Lift the lower oven panel out by pulling up from the rear. Remove the screws holding the flame spreader and remove the flame spreader. Now you will see the burner and igniter attached to it. There are 2 quarter inch hex screws holding the ignitor on. GE likes to put them on an angle where you cant get at them. If you have trouble you can remove the bottom drawer and remove the screws securing the burner to the back wall. There should be one in the front too. The burner will now lift up and you can get at the screws. The new ignitor should come with ceramic wire nuts. Just cut the old igniter, strip the ends of the wires going to it and wire nut the new one on. Reverse the rest of the steps. Here's a little trouble shooting schem. Catriver...post back.

Claibrating the temperature of a GE gas oven

First of all, do not use the oven thermometers from a grocery store. they can be off by 20 degrees or more. These directions may help you for electronically controlled ovens. The older manually controlled ovens have a small screw head in the center of the oven temperature knob that can be adjusted in usually 10 degree increments.

To Adjust the Thermostat
Touch the Bake and Broil Hi/Lo pads
at the same time for 3 seconds until the
display shows SF.
Touch the Bake pad. A two digit number
shows in the display.
Touch Bake once to decrease (-)
the oven temperature, or twice to
increase (+).
The oven temperature can be adjusted
up as much as 35°F. or down as much
as 35°F. Touch the number pads the
same way you read them. For example,
to change the oven temperature 15°F,
touch 1 and 5.
When you have made the adjustment,
touch the Start pad to go back to the
time of day display. Use your oven as
you would normally.
NOTE: The thermostat adjustment for Baking
will also affect Convection Baking or Convection Roasting.

I had the same problem happen tonight. I have an XL44 self-cleaning gas range. We unplugged it for several minutes and pressed 'cancel' a bunch of times--neither worked. We finally lucked out--opened the oven door and pressed a black button on the upper left side of the front of the oven. It turned out the flashing words and unlocked our door. Weird. There was nothing in the manual about this...

Whirlpool Accubake self cleaning oven problems

Thousands of people have the same problem with the Whirlpool Accubake self cleaning ovens: when you use the self-cleaning feature it kills the control panel and locks the oven. There is no way to fix it yourself, you must call a service repair person, and the replacement control panel costs several hundred dollars. This should be a class action lawsuit. There is no record that Whirlpool has made any of its customers whole (paid for the repair) even though this is a known problem based upon a documented defective part.

Center burner doesn't ignite all the way around

We have a GE Profile gas stove with the center burner (which has the removeable plate for pancakes, etc. The center burner will not light all around, only half of it will ignite. We've cleaned it, tried everything. It worked when we bought it. We bought it only about 14 months ago.

I had this same problem. You will need to lift off the burner and remove the two 9/32" nuts and lock washers from the bottom of the center burner. Then separate the top section from the bottom. You will need to clean the inside of both sections down using a green scotchbrite pad removing and debris or small surface film the may have built up. Then rinse with warm water and dry them well. Reassemble it and your burner should work as good as new. Remember even just a small grease film on the burner holes will create this issue.
