My cooktop has electric ignition that "clicks"

Take a q-tip and clean under where it clicks. Might have food or grease covering release hole.

We cleaned to cooktop and now the igniters don't work. the ciruit breaker won't reset and continues to trip

You are short circuiting the cooktop. Make sure no metal is touching the igniters. Check everything again, making sure everything is in place correctly. Also make sure it is fully dry.

When I attempt to light

Hi

Some of the probable causes to your problem are:-

Blow into the little holes where the gas comes out.sometimes they get clogged with water after washing them or something is spilled on them. sometimes this is the solution.
If ithe spark gap on the igniter is plugged with food, clean it with a small brush and rubbing alcohol. Do not scrape.
On some ranges if the burner is rotated when cleaned and is in the wrong position, it will not light.
Or
a cracked electrode ignitor or bad wire to the ignitor can stop/prevent the spark from sparking at the correct spot and lighting the burner.
Sometimes the problem is a bad ignition switch too.

All 4 electrodes spark when only one is turned on

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good "blue" arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

Igniter will not stop

This indicates an infinte switch has failed or the spark module. First you will need to check each switch. If all switches are working correctly replace the spark module. Here is a link that should help with testing the infinte switches http://appliancehelponline.com/infiniteswitchvideo.html

Clicks but does not ignite

You will need to change the Igniter. There are at least 2 igniters that operate with one knob. Some units all 4 igniters operate with one knob. The clicking you hear is the other Igniter or Igniters clicking. The Igniter for the burner that does not light has failed.

The model number you passed is missing some numbers JGP628 should be like this JGP628BEC1BB or this JGP628WEK1WW

The Igniters are NOT all the same:

AP 3191250

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=3191250&rdr=%2fpartsearch%2fmodel.aspx%3fmodel_id%3d214810%26diagram_id%3d21784824

or...

AP3779012 (No image)

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=3779012&rdr=%2fpartsearch%2fmodel.aspx%3fmodel_id%3d5213362

It can even be a wire to the electrode / igniter that has found a chassis ground inside the cooktop.

When you have a complete model number go to this page and choose your model number:

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/modelsearch.aspx?model=JGP628

The item you may need is item 154 of the cooktop.

It would be a good idea to plan for an outlet for the cooktop. most do use 120 volts for the spark device. Locate it behind or below the cooktop so it will not be confused with your countertop outlets.
