My refrigerator is stuck in defrost mode

If your refrigerator is a few years old it may have an electromechanical timer to control the defrost cycle. With age and/or lots of dust the timer motor can wear out or the switch contacts can get stuck. Behind the grill below the door there should be a small black box with several wires coming out of it. On the front of the box there is a small (dime sized) round disk with a slot in it. This is the defrost timer, a 24-hour clock mechanism which switches the cooling unit off and the defrost heaters on for 15 or 20 minutes every 24 hours (approximately). Insert a small insulated screwdriver into the slot and turn it slowly clockwise until you hear a click. The compressor and fan(s) should turn on (if they aren't running already) and the defrost heaters should turn off. If you continue turning the timer disk you should hear another click and the compressor & fans will shut off and the heaters turn on. Stop turning the disk at this point. Wait a couple of minutes and then turn the disk a few degrees farther (5 degrees represents about 20 minutes). You should hear a click and the compressor starting up again. If there is no change and the heaters still seem to be on, then you may need to replace the timer (it should unplug from the wiring harness). A Home Appliance Parts store should be able to provide you with a compatible replacement timer.

SxS I have glued these shafts back together with good success, but you may want to just replace it

The water dispenser will not work although the

The water line is not blocked, but the problem is water valve. At the back of the ice maker there is a water valve. This water valve has two section holes. From one hole the water passes to ice maker tray and from other hole the water passes to water dispenser.Si in your case this valve is working properly for ice maker section but its not working for water dispenser. Its a twin valve. This valve has to be replaced. The other possibility is water line blocked, but if you are confirmed that water line is clear then replacing water valve will help to solve the problem. ------------- To see how this valve looks. Please see the fig below:--- helpmech_65.jpg
In the fig you can see the two sections of one valve. The dark blue and dark brown. In your case the Blue section of valve is running and functioning properly, but the brown section is not working properly or vice versa. In any case this valve needs to be replaced. The valve is located at the back of the ice maker section. ---------- To order this valve .Please click on the link below:--- http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Water-Inlet-Valve/880070 -------------- If you require instructions for part disassembly to locate and remove the valve. Please click on the link below:--- http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/G0311240-00002.png ------------ Part number 800 is valve. ------------ Also for complete disassembly of ytour refrigerator. Please click the link below:--- http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/GE-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-GSS22JFMDWW/0432/0165000?searchedModel=GSS22JFMWW&blt=11 ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech,.

Side by side GE PSW23PSTB SS. Freezer is 3 degrees

Check to see if evap fan is running. you can hear it if it is when you open the door of the freezer. Also check and see if there is a lot of frost on the back wall of the lower section of the freezer. If fan is running you have defrost problem. If not running it is a board problem. part # wr55x10942. If you have frost then it will more than likely be the defrost heaters which both are easy to do if you take your time.
