Evaporater coil was frozen. Thawed

My first guess is defrost timer, is stuck in defrost, if you can find it, turn it, and if the compressor and fans turn on, you got your answer.

This sounds like it is not defrosting, plus the drain may be clogged not letting the water drain. The drain clog will not block the fan, but not defrosting will.

Hi.

If you: "shut off everything for a couple of days and then turn back on to have everything works for about 5 to 6 weeks and then refrigerator section stop getting cold again."

Then it is likely the defrost system.

The defrost system is located behind the unit back panel, and its function is to keep condenser coils free from frost.

If the defrost system is not working fine, the condenser will go under stress and the unit will produce insufficient cooling, particularly on high temperature conditions.

If it is a defrost system problem leaving unit to defrost completely will fix the problem for few weeks, then it will restart in consequence of the missing defrost function, and of ice on the condenser coil.

The defrost system comprises of an heating coil, a thermostat, a fan.

Heating coil and thermostat are tested using a multimeter to read Ohms on the part contacts, the fan is testing energizing it.

If you want a quote on repair you can contact the phone number listed on the user manual.

Here parts and diagrams for the model in title.

Regards.

GE GBS18HBRAWW / ICE BUILD UP IN DRAIN LINE/TROUGH

Check for a blockage around the through area from the freezer to the refrig. or something such as a jug of milk that you keep in the same loacation time after time. if this jug or what ever stays in this area that can cause a cold spot and keep that area from getting warm enough to let ice thaw.

Sanyo Refridgetor with freezer on top

This is common, your machine needs a new defrost klixon. or it is (the klixon) loose from it's mount. Turning off the mach. gets a good defrost and
all is good for a time.
