About every 3 days the refrigerator and freezer

Hello mhreves, Wrong number?? My favorite site (USA domestic)) is saying you are missing a character in your MODEL number... GSS23SGS(A/B/C)SS... ((I don't worry much about numbers... do IN FACT get changed over time... The important part is USA domestic)) Check out the part link below... What you describe has to be a MAIN POWER circuit failure. In the old days I would say "DEFROST TIMER"... without any hesitation... especially because of your "3 day" description. New machines... your power control board typically takes that function... I would strongly suggest you watch this included video... then take pictures of your CONNECTIONS before you touch anything. Always remove power & always wear an anti-static wrist strap when touching ANY CIRCUIT BOARD YOU CARE ABOUT. $6 WRIST BAND (electro-static discharge = ESD)... ROLL YOUR BOARD over and look at the bottom for a BAD SOLDER JOINT under your (little black ... probably OMRON power relays... (the quick touch of a SKILLED solderer's iron could ALTER (or ruin) the functionality of that board... ((badly burned should be DE-SOLDERED & cleaned first)) (((better still send it in for professional refurbishment YOU should order that SPARE BOARD you always wanted (AFTER VERIFYING all your numbers FIRST). LIKE at AMAZON (wrong number?) Amazon com GE WR55X10956 Main Control Board Assembly for Refrigerator Home... Freezer wont freeze

if the back inside wall of the freezer doesn't have frost on it you don't have a defrost problem probably a bad computer board pull out the second bin or draw of food up from the bottom and stick your hand on the back inside wall of the freezerif there's no frost or like snow on the wall i would say you have a bad board,g.e. has been having problems with the boards, you can try calling them to see if they will help you out with the board, they might give it to you or give you a good deal on it part number WR55X10942 and it's around 150 dollars, pull out the fridge, look on the back wall and you'll see the board cover, unplug the machine, remove the cover, there are 4 plastic pins that holds the board in place,i use a pair of needlenose plyers, you pinch the tip of the pin and pull the corner of the board forwards,do this to all 4,you can check the board for burn marks but if you don't see anything it still most likely your problem, everything runs through the board, you'll see like j4 next to the wire connectors you can mark them or whatever is easy for you, pull them off and install them onto the new board, also if the machine is a few years old it's a good idea to remove the inside back wall of the freezer and on the top of the evap coil you'll see a sensor there,it looks like a white bullet with two white wires going to it,if where the wires connect to it has a black ring on it you should also change this out,the new temp. sensor is all white part number WR55X10025 and it's like 7 dollars,if yours already has it leave it alone.another thing i've noticed on some machines is the fans sound like they're running on half speed or going fast and then slow.hope this helps you out

Freeze is not freezing

Good day!!!

If the refrigerator isn't cool, check to see if the light comes on when you open the door. Next check to see if the thermostat is set properly. If both of these are OK, then check to see if the compressor is running. See if the compressor motor is running. The compressor is in a case with no visible moving parts. It is usually located at the back of the refrigerator near the bottom. If it's humming, or making a steady noise, and your refrigerator is still not cooling properly, there could be a problem with one or more various components.
Refrigerators have either a mechanical defrost timer, or an ADC (Adaptive Defrost Control). If your refrigerator has a mechanical timer, set the cold control to the coldest setting and then advance the defrost timer. You can manually advance the timer with a screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the advancement pinion and turn clockwise a 1/4 to 3/8's of a turn. If the compressor starts, replace the defrost timer. For further help, you'll want to call a professional appliance repair technician.
Sometimes you can hear a click-buzz-click sound coming from the compressor. This is the relay/overload at work. If you hear this, power is getting to the compressor. If you do, something is wrong with either the compressor or the compressor starting components. If you have a newer model with solid-state starting components, you may not hear anything at all. If there is power to the starting components, you may be able to test each part and replace any bad parts. There is also a 3-in-1 unit that may work on your model which replaces all the components in one unit. If the compressor still won't start, you have a bad compressor and need to replace it. If it does start, wire the 3-in-1 part in permanently. Make sure the one you buy is rated for the horsepower of your appliance.
If you don't hear anything, you can take the cover off the side of the compressor and test for voltage at the two leads. If no voltage is present, it's time to check the cold control. To test if the cold control is bad, you can temporarily jump the two wires at the cold control. If you get power to the compressor after doing so, the cold control needs to be replaced.

I hope this information will be helpful..Thanks for using fixya

Freezer makes ice but right food section will not

You have two fans and one damper door assemly on this refrigerator model. You have a freezer fan that you should hear turn on. With the refrigerator fan, which is located inside upper duct assemly, it should not turn on until you hold the door switch closed. You should also feel air coming out the top duct assembly vent when you hold the swith down. So, in a nutshell, listen for the small fan to turn on inside the refrigerator top duct assembly, feel for airflow, and listen for the freezer evap fan to turn on. There can be many issues, the damper door breaks on these models, the controls boards go out all the time resulting in no fan, the evap fan shorts out sometimes and takes the control board with it. :-> Sorry to overload you but I hope this sheds some light.
