Personally, I would uninstall Trend - I had the same problem. I'd get my money back as well. I didn't bother to find out why because it was a hassle going through all kinds of do this and do that processes - the heck with that. If programmers did their job correctly, it should work. There is a cheap, FREE alternative you may consider.

A FREE AND POWERFUL ANTIVIRUS

There's a few to choose from, but my pick is AVAST. You need to register for it, but it is totally free and no ads or banners. Auto-updates and option to upgrade to a paid version, but most find this unnecessary.

There is also Comodo Suite which has an optional super strong commercial strength Firewall, but somewhat annoying. The Antivirus gets better by the day and is now a top contender.

AVIRA is not to seedy either. Rated in the Top 3 Freeware.

Just remember to disable or uninstall the other antivirus after installation. If you opt for a free firewall, make sure you disable your current one.

These ratings change regularly as software is improved and contenders get more serious.

Another free security program that may compliment these is Superantispyware. It is currently rated #1 in the freeware list and also rivals some top of the line commercial spyware protectors.

you need to disable your personal firewall, or add a exception to it so you can gain updates. If you have linux desktop on it it would bipass that and give you updates. no one targets linux, os it is for free and, it comes built in with better firewall, it is harder to crack linux because everyone targets windows os

You can attempt the following to see if you can complete a manual uninstall:

• Click on Start, then Run
• type in regedit and hit enter, this will open the registry.
• Click the + sign to expand the following folders: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Uninstall (see image):
• Under Uninstall, you will find a number of folders with numeric names. Find the folder that matches the program and click on it once to highlight.
• Copy the folder name.
• Close the registry, then click on Start and Run.

Uninstall first your trend micro then reinstall it again. Most likely you may have gotten a corruption on the software itself.

this is mostly available on your CD sleeve. If you don't have it than you are out of luck.

Best bet would be to ask assistance from someone with credentials to reset your user account. Otherwise you may try to completely default the device with directions included with unit. This may involve any software that came with it when new.
