For installing a wireless printer on Windows XP, wireless router is an essential device. Follow the recommended steps mentioned on the installation CD of the router, and set-up a wireless network. I think you will find it reports low ink as a warning to give you time to go out and buy replacement ink cartridges. Do not change the ink until it is empty . or not printing the particular colour.

have you checked the ink levels?

go to control panel the programs and features to uninstall any thing you could of course right click on the printer > properties , > compatibility tab > click square and high l tight your operating system ( win xp , vista , win 7 etc) > apply and ok first any drivers for the printer should be downloaded from Dell web site and not through the win site list so check all of that first

There is not an option to buy a print head, only cartridges are available as spare parts. New printers are available from Amazon. Dell P703w Wireless All in One Photo Printer

Open the software you installed when setting up the printer or go into the "properties" of your default printer and select "color", not black.

Failing to scan when an ink cartridge is empty is the normal behavior of most ink-jet printers. Check your settings i=under the Services Toolbox. Also go into printer preferences and see if you can force it to print in black only.
