Have you tried a different USB port? Also, if you look on the forums at samsung-eternity.com they explain it all. I would suggest going in to add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstalling all samsung software/drivers. You can then download them again from Samsung's website along with PC Studio. It can be finicky but it works

The best thing to do is buy it from your phone carrier. They often offer discounted rates for signing up for new contracts, being a good customer and other discounts most people don't know about especially if you have been with them for several years. I had a problem similar to this a few times and found that it was due to the phone thinking that there was still something in the headphone jack so the only sound that would come from the phone was a ringtone or when using the speakerphone. If you had a bluetooth device connected and it did not disconnect properly then the phone may be trying to play the sounds to the bluetooth and not the speaker, Turn the phone's bluetooth off and then on and it should work. Also, if you look at a sound file or video file it will show the bluetooth symbol next to it, which means that it is playing to bluetooth and not the phones other outputs.
