OK, with laptops, yes, but if i may suggest something.

I would suggest that you have a look at the fan unit i n the heat sink first. Is is more probable that the fan is dusty, like in the picture below.
I usually just use compressed air to clean it, if the problem still persists after you have done this, you can have a look at the thermal paste.

If you can load your OS ok ,,then use your "tab" keys and arrow keys to navigate and select and enter to change configuration.these keys should sequentialy work from left to right maybe putting a box round any option,press enter to make change permanent,or even restore to default

What happens when you install a single item and reboot

Most likely the AC Adapter has a short in either the cord or the black box which contains the board which converts the power from your home outlet to 12V or 19V which the laptop motherboard uses. This would cause thebuzz or hum coming from it. I suggest getting a replacement AC Adapter and see if it fixes the issue. The other thing that could be causing this is that the DC Jack that you are plugging the adapter into, could be broken. Most of these jacks have 3 prongs that are soldered onto your motherboard and if any of them break and lose contact to the motherboard it will result in your battery not charging and possible feedback to the AC Adapter. If that is the case then it can usually be repaired at a PC Repair store or Electronics Repair store for around $200. Let me know if this fixes your issue.

Go to the control panel > sound > look in the playback tab for your speakers, make sure to highlight them and choose "Default". click apply and ok, now your speakers are the default device.

You can but its not straight forward, your laptop probably came with a SATA connection for your hard drive, XP doesn't recognise this. It doesn't have the correct drivers.

You'll have to build a special installation disc, using a free programme called NLITE, download from Filehippo.com.

You then have to get a copy of XP, with licence, also download all the drivers you need. If you can't get them from emachines you'll have to google for them.

Do the research, build the disk, then before you install. Make sure you've copied all the data from your laptop so you can reinstall win7 if the XP-eriment goes wrong.

Connect the tv to the netbook with a HDMI cable and configure the tv as a second, secondary display.

Find the picture, logo, or image you would like to use. Move the cursor over the picture or image and right-click with your mouse. When the task menu pops up scroll down to Set as Desktop Background. You are all set.

more than likely, the graphics card is damaged. What i would do, is go to your local computer store, Radioshack, best buy etc.

Press Fn + F11 it will turn on the Num pad

If you bought it new, it's still under warranty. Contact the store where you bought it.
Otherwise, freezing machines that stop working after a short time but will turn back after sitting a while are usually having a heat issue. Bad CPU fan, bad video fan, etc.

Firstly, try your recovery disk. If that doesnt help, You will need to reinstall the operating system. I reccomend you go to the pirate bay and download windows 7 from extremezone. Then burn it to DVD. If you dont know how to do this, Just go on google and type: how to burn an iso. Then, once installed, You will need to crack the software. Go into the DVD contents and select one of the cracks. Then follow the onscreen instructions.

Try using the function keys to enable the mouse. I'm unsure which of the 'F' keys it is, but if you can locate the picture, then hold down the Fn key + the appropriate 'F' key and hope that the mouse starts to work. Also you can try loading into the BIOS, hitting F9 to reload refaults, and then F10 to save and exit. Failing these both, best option would be to go back to retailer. Good luck
