My seiko s149 with built in printer went blank the other day.

The S149 has 2 sets of batteries

1) 4 X AA for the printer
2) a round "button battery inside the unit for the clock.

Open up the unit, you will see that it takes either a 2450 or a 2032 depending on the model.

(This problem is fairly common after replacing batteries, so I suspect that there is a procedure for resetting the timer.)

I'm assuming that you have the correct thermal paper and it was installed correctly as explained in the manual at page 7.
If this is the case then the defect is hardware. To find out where the defect is located you must do a simple test by pressing the paper advancing switch. If the paper doesn't move then the paper mechanism has failed and it will have to be replaced - only a Seiko dealer can do that since they are the only ones that have spares, you will have to send it to one. If the paper moves then the defect is in the print unit - there are no spares for it, the unit is dead.

I suggest taking the item to a watch repair store and have them install it for a min. cost, some will change the battery right on the spot. The other option is to get the proper tool called a case opener that will take the watch case off. go to www.ebay.com and type watch tools, there you will find all kinds of case openers that have fixed sizes and adjustable ones.
