plug the garmin into the compuer naviate to the drive find the ASR folder delete all languages you don't want check the voice folder, clean it up too go into gpx and delete the Archive (bread crumb trail) folder run the update again and make sure to choose USA and CANADA. both must be on there for the voice command to work.

Does the unit boot properly to the main menu? The subroutine that scans for a PC to GPS data connection only can occur at the main screen. Does the USB port appear to be loose? bad connection at the USB port will prevent the PC from linking up to the Nuvi.

Answer: If your nuvi 850, 855, 860, 865, 880, or 885 is experiencing any of the following symptoms:

• The touch screen is no longer responsive and the unit appears to be locked up
• The unit will turn on however freeze at the point where it indicates that it is Loading Maps...
• The unit takes five minutes or longer to be recognized by your computer as a mass storage device

A software update is now available for you to update your nuvi to correct these issues. Please use our WebUpdater program to install this update.
Please note: Due to this problem, it may take up to five minutes before your computer will recognize your nuvi as a mass storage device. This procedure has been known to (but doesn't always) delete your favorites so back them up beforehand: From the nuvi drive, copy x:/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx to your backup location. After the hard reset, copy current.gpx back to the same folder on the nuvi but rename it temp.gpx (important). On the next power cycle, the favorites will be read from temp.gpx into the non-user accessible memory area on the nuvi where they are actually stored (current.gpx is only a shadowed backup of your favorites)

Power the unit off. Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. Reset all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite almanac data.

If you forgot your pin code or can't remember the safe location, you will need to send it to Garmin to unlock it.

Try resetting GPS by holding power button in on position for 30 seconds.

There isn't an easy way to do this since there are not readily available video inputs on the 885T. Garmin sold a part called a VIB 10 that would connect the 885T and allow a video input. Unfortunately, like the 885T the VIB 10 is discontinued by Garmin. Sorry.

Have your Nuvi fully charged before you do anything with it

With the unit Off

connect the gps to your computer using the USB cord, your computer will detect new hardware USB port

go to www.MyGarmin.com once there it too will detect your model and give you the correct updates and unlock maps

you must register your unit with garmin

Have you selected the right language under Tools-Settings-Language........the voice personality, is the one that eeds to be on the right setting. Select a voice that speaks street names to listen to text messages and for voice prompts.

From what I have heard from Garmin, one sends it in along with $90 to get a refurbished unit. LOTS of people are seeing this issue, including myself the other day after only 2 years of using it. I wont be buying another Garmin Product at this point. Seems to be a known issue. Things used to last for decades - now one is lucky to get 2 years out of my things, including Canon and HP Printers! (more experience with that too!)

I assume you checked that the mute box is not ticked. If not check it at the same place as the volume. The most likely cause is that there is no voice selected. To select a voice, press Tools, then Settings, then Language, and then Voice. If a voice is not ticked then press one to select it.

It's possible that the voice files have been corrupted and will not work. IF this is the case connect your satnav to your computer and it should automatically download the latest version of webupdater from the garmin website. When updated you will have the option to download voices. Select the ones you want and follow the prompts and they will be downloaded to your satnav. You may then have to to repeat the voice selection process described in paragraph 1 above

follow this steps:
1. Slide the Power key to the left and hold it for 8 seconds .
2. Turn it back on.
That will fix your problem.

Touching the screen along the lower left on most gps systems will bring up the volume. otherwise you can use the preferences menu to change them. if the soudn is up all the way then there is nothgin further you can do
