I have Sanyo DP50749, I turned the televison on
There are number of things that can be bad and what's more there are number of very different Sanyo DP50749 models which have rather different internals and different known issues.
What you need to find out first is the chassis of the TV, which is going to be on the back label, something like P50749-00 for example, and supply that too.
Here's a link with offer for parts and repairs we have for DP50749 - again, be advised that those may be for practically very different TVs internally and the first thing you need to do is find out what is yours! :

Picture with distorted,flickering, darkened area
There are several possibilities here.
To be able to help better we'd need to know the model number.
The most likely suspects are the T-CON board, one of the two backlight inverters and the display itself.
Of those only the last one is usually not curable.
Here's an example of a popular set of inverters that , when one goes bad you can get one half of the screen very dark:

On the other hand, if you have vertical shadows and some flickering that's probably NOT going to be a backlight inverter.
Flickering would be caused by either the T-CON or the panel.
Since a bad panel is mostly NOT curable you may want to check the price of a replacement T-CON and decide if it is worth taking a shot with one before you displace the TV.
Again, the thing to start with is the model.
Hope this helps.
