This indicates that you have 1 or more bad lamps in the panel. You can get replacement lamps, but they are hard to change and easy to damage something else.

There is a problem in power supply sectio of your TV.

Unfortunately this particular model has a history of bad reports. Often related to plugging a laptop or other device into the VGA connector. If it is under warranty then press them to fix it. If it is not, you are probably better off moving on. Sorry.

Goto the DVD movie main Menu look for Close Captioning turn it off.Will have no more dialogue printed on the screen bottom.

Power on the unit in the dark room then shine with the flashlight directly in the screen, you will barely see the images. This is because your backlight is not functioning. The following reason is the caused.
1. Power supply - missing B+(supply voltage) coming from this board feeding the inverter board. This is caused by faulty transistor, dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor, open fusible resistor.
2. Inverter board - even the B+ is good from the power supply, if the fuse, driver transistor, driver transformer is faulty no output to the backlight resulting to black picture.
3. Busted backlight - even inverter board is good but if this is busted resulting to black picture also.
Diagnosing the fault is technical and if you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't fix it yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.

Unfortunately, components need their black smoke.
Once the black smoke escapes, the component is useless.
(ok, that's a tech joke)

It should at least be easy to identify what components blew when you open it up.

Try turning on the closed captioning feature on the cable box instead of the television this may solve the issue altogether. If you need assistance in doing so please give me the model of the cable box.

After it goes off do you see a very faint glow on the screen? If not then this is definitely a case of faulty backlight inverter board. Replacing the same would resolve the problem. Also order the part by part number only as each model can use different versions of the same model. If you need help loacting the part number on the board, then let me know

might be a problem with your audio cables (the red and white ones, yellow is video). Check if they're connected properly. If they're not, they may be damaged.

there are 2 capacitors on the power board that need replaced with exact replacements. They will be labeled ec17 and ec18 on the power board. The caps themselves will probably be brown or black and say 10uF 450v on them. You should be able to get the parts at radio shack or digikey or mouser. You will also need a solder gun and some solder. Check youtube on how to solder and always remember to unplug the TV before servicing.

I owned this set for 1.5 years with no problem until I used the VGA input port. I could watch movies from my laptop for about 3 days, then my TV wouldn't turn on? The red power light was on but the light never turned blue indicating the set is on.

I searched this set on line and found this problem was very common with this set. I believe it is a manufacture defect that they didn't have a recall for.

I am going to replace the LCD control board, that should take care of the problem. I saw a used one on ebay for $69. With this board having known problems, I didn't dare try a used one.

This problems the T-Con board have problems not working correctly,this board sit at the bottom at the center of the of the LCD screen panel.Replaced it.

The power cord is the same as a universal computer power cord. available at most pc repair shops, big lots and wal-mart

the backlight boards are going bad replace them and it should fix the problem
